Ok, these are challenging times in restaurants especially in terms of service. We got off to a rocky start on Saturday evening even though there was only one other table dining at the same time. This was my first dining experience along Arthur Avenue and I was looking forward to it. My son and I waited about 45 minutes for our appetizer and they brought out the wrong one. (As the wait was getting longer, the hostess apologized and said our order had to be resent in the kitchen and she offered dessert at the end.) We reiterated our order to the waiter and sent back the incorrect appetizer. Our correct appetizers were delicious (calamari and flatbread with prosciutto, arugula and buffalo mozzarella). My dinner was delicious as well, the pappardelle with prosciutto cream sauce. My son had chicken parmigiana with linguine, it was ok but nothing more. In the interim, the chef had come outside to ourselves and the other table. He apologized to us that the machine that printed the orders had run out of paper and they tried to recreate our order from memory. We did finish with a fabulous cheesecake. All in all, it was a good experience the staff and chef were kind and apologetic about the "bumps" in the service and made it a nice dining experience all...
Read moreCannot speak to the food as we were not served. Made and modified reservations on OpenTable as we had traveled 20+ miles for Bronx Zoo Holiday lights. Should have been a seemless pre holiday family evening out in my elderly fathers old neighborhood. Upon arrival Genaro was visibly annoyed commenting NOT Welcome... but eye rolling, you must be from Open Table...indicated very loudly, embarrassing us in front of whole (tiny, loud restaurant) that he had a 26 person party coming and we’d have to be out in 35 mins..huh?...Plus a bizarre (especially inappropriate considering the situation) commentary about how busy and popular his restaurant is..he called my dad rude when he asked him to stop shouting at us, took no responsibility for the reservation snafu and made us so uncomfortable we packed up our 3 young children and older parents out into the cold, wet late evening to find another restaurant...there’s tons of great restaurants over there(Antonio’s down street was warm, welcoming, and delicious) if you’re unkind, unwelcoming, and egotistical? We’ll Definitely...
Read moreWe ventured into Arthur Av for lunch after hitting the NY Botanical Gardens. Thankfully, San Gennaro had available tables since it was Mother's Day. The restaurant is cozy, sitting for less than 40 people, including the tables outside. The staff are super friendly, prompt, and helpful. We started with the fried meatballs and the burrata salad with Prosciutto presuito. The burrata is homemade, and it's creamy and delicious. The salad was amazing. The meatballs were excellent. They were served in a little skillet with onions, garlic, and red peppers. For our mains, we ordered the ravioli alla bolagnese and the cavatelli with Italian sweet sausage & sauteed broccoli rabe. The cavatelli was light in flavor, but good. However, the winner was the ravioli. The bolagnese sauce was probably the best bolagnese sauce I've ever had. It was rich, bold, and so full of amazing flavor it was awesome. This place is a gem. I highly recommend you stop here and get anything with their...
