Dr. Tian Song is an excellent teacher. She is an experienced, encouraging and loving educator. Her dedication to her work and inspiration to her students are transformed through her passion for music and endless positive energy. She is able to unleash the inner artistic potential of any young person, to help them realize their full potential.
She offers one-on-one and ensemble instructions for piano performances ranging from beginners to advanced players who are college level. During her many years of teaching, many students treat her as a mentor and consult with her on many related academic topics. Dr. Song always shares her experiences and provides individual teaching plans to optimize the learning experiences. She dedicates much personal time to host custom and dedicated classes. Furthermore, she provides many opportunities for the students to perform publicly. She also encourages students to compete and participate in music competitions and festivals. Her students win many major national and international competitions and receive worldwide recognition for their achievements. Many of these achievements, awards, and testimonials, are displayed at her school. Her dedication to music education is very much appreciated by her students, parents, and peer colleagues in the music field. Dr. Song not only brings joyful spirit and passion to each student, but also shows the students how patience and persistent can help them in other fields. She dedicates so much time and effort on the development of students as a whole person, not just as a music student.
A beauty of this school is that other teachers in this school are very dedicated as well. They make significant efforts and cooperate with each other and with Dr. Song to provide students with more opportunities to perform publicly.
Since Dr. Song opened her school in 2013, many students from this music school went on to prestigious schools including, Mark Twain, La Guardia, Stuyvesant, Cornell, Michigan, Stanford and UCLA. Many students received scholarships based on their achievements in music. Recently, a student was offered full scholarship for Wellesley college and Tufts University. No doubt, the students’ accomplishments in music play important roles when they pursue higher education.
My child has been learning music with Dr. Song’s school since kindergarten. Over the years, my child has been making significant progress in music. With Dr. Song’s teaching, my child won first place in national and international music competitions. My child is very happy to continue studying at this outstanding music school...
Read moreMy daughter started learning piano there April 2021 when she as 5 yrs old so it has been almost 2 years. The place is good, had its ups and downs during pandemic but in general I can give it 4 stars and can recommend with some caveats.
When we started there were a couple of teachers who I find very good and patient in teaching young children. When came a period of chaotic teacher shuffling where teachers came and go, and had to change our class schedule multiple times, sometimes last minute. That chaos eventually stopped and we now had the same teacher for over a year which is good to have consistency.
The teaching faculties seems to be diverse - over the past 2 years I have seen teachers of both genders and backgrounds from Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Caucasian. My daughter's teachers were university students studying music but seemed capable of teaching beginners. One teacher is college student majoring in music, another was a grad student doing his masters. I have heard/seen other instructors teaching other more advanced students but not had a chance to experienced the more 'seasoned' teachers yet.
The facilities are clean, I think there are 5 or 6 rooms each with a piano. Most rooms have upright and 2 rooms have baby grand. The pianos are Yamaha and Kawai which is what I would expect. When we started in 2021 about half the pianos were out of tune or had 1-2 keys not working right (resistant was not right). I had to complain about at least half dozen times before the owner/manager got them tuned. Now (2023) they are mostly tuned properly. There are a pair of grands in the basement where the more advanced students uses and allow for duets. The rooms can be rented for practicing.
Just this month they have resumed the recital for students after a pause of 2 years due to pandemic. It was challenging due to the school's limited space and was quite chaotic - but we had a good time and I can see the children were proud of their accomplishments and are more motivated to continue.
Have not tried other music schools but overall I am happy with Tian Song and will recommend. My other child will likely start here too when...
Read moreTian Song Musical Arts is an extraordinary place. The place is tidy and aesthetically pleasing with its simple yet decorative design, and still has for the 5 years I have studied in this place. For practicing, you are given multiple rooms with a grand piano. Although the school’s main focus is on the piano, you are given a variety of other classes in other instrumental classes such as the strings and winds. The professional attitude is maintained, yet it still allows for smiles, warm greetings, and conversations with people at the front. The teachers for this school are all talented in their respective fields and all know how to teach their students well. In Tian Song Musical Arts, not only do you learn to develop and further your musical skills, you get to learn about public performances, music theory, and ect. During my 5 years at this school, I had an inspiring journey, where under the guidance from my teacher, Dr. Song, I successfully passed the Grade 5 and Grade 8 ABRSM music theory exams. I was also able to learn from Dr. Song about other life topics such as speaking with confidence, having a positive attitude, and having a positive outlook on studies and everyday life. Just recently, I was able to perform in the National Opera Center of America with the help of Dr. Song. Currently, I am preparing to take the Grade 8 ABRSM Piano Exam. All of these were due to the help from this school and my teacher. If I were to choose a place to study music again, I would choose Tian Song...
