This is an edited to include this When I was waiting for the bill and my was mom outside, the man who had initially came over to fix the order told her that they were giving us the food we didn’t order for free since we couldn’t afford to pay.
I am LIVID knowing this I wish she told me while I was there because WHAT KIND OF DISRESPECTFUL SERVICE IS THIS?! Truly DO BETTER!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST IT! So much for wanting to give a small place a try do not go here unless you want to have a horrible experience. I don’t know how they have other reviews that are better but definitely NEVER coming back here nor recommending.
PS I forgot to mention it earlier, the place smelled very humid inside and like cigars.
Definitely is a place that’s NEEDS improvement. I am so disappointed of this place. I came with my whole family because we wanted to try a new place we haven’t been to and it as a bday celebration for my brother. I would definitely not recommend unless they make changes. I am not sure I am willing to come back but I hope they change for others sake.
The waitress is nice but NEEDS TO WORK on her job. I mean it in the very best possible way. The restaurant was empty by the way so we were the only table so it’s not even that she was busy.
She messed up our order more than 4 times. The first time was when I asked for a strawberry mojito and she gave me a regular one. She fixed it. Then she gave us the wrong soda. I said it was fine it’s okay small fixes. Then came when I asked for the steak calpeno they came out with a different one. The lady said she didn’t know. I kindly took it and ask for her to please make me the one we ordered and would stay with the extra order. However it did not have taste and was over cooked while I asked for everything medium. I left it as is. One of my brother’s order came with rice and beans and took forever to bring out. We also ordered tacos dorados that NEVER came out. My brother’s order was steak Mexicano and they brought a different one. Since it was his birthday I did ask them to please rectify it and they said they would. They asked which enchiladas he wanted more than one because they did not write it down. They finally brought out his order after everyone was done and when he tried it he said it was very bland and had no flavor. A young man came out and asked us how was service and I kindly asked him for the bill because we were not satisfied at all and all the wrongs they did. I just wanted to leave. I waited for the bill while my family started leaving to the table. And they brought us a bag the girl had no idea what it was. She then came back said it was the steak that was brought out. I kindly declined it because new did not order it and they said it was on the house. I however had NO intentions of taking it because it was not what we wanted and the experience we had so far was not...

Read moreThis review is only for the Elote and the Pastor Burger
Marcela Cocina Mexicana is a very cute, quaint, and warm restaurant with pretty decors and aesthetics that reflects the vibe of the culture. It has a nice setup for whether you prefer an intimate or a more social dining experiences. The staff was nice and friendly, but perhaps because it was during the afternoon, he was often nowhere to be found (i.e., I had to go to the kitchen area to ask for the check); not a big deal but definitely not ideal.
Now onto the food which I am confident they are capable of improving:
The elote was perfectly charred, but the dressing on it was severely lacking as evident in the pictures below. Even after trying my best to spread the dressing all around the corn, a big portion of it was still just plain empty. So if you like eating a regular grilled corn, this may be decent, but I found it overly plain and disappointing since it wasn't like your typical elote where it was seasoned all around.
The Pastor Burger was also unfortunately underwhelming. The interior of the burger was quite dry and the waiter did not ask how I'd like the burger cooked, so it was served well-done. The beef mixture of the patty had some herbs in it but no onions, which made the interior very dry and tough. The al pastor on top of the beef patty was also tough and chewy, which coupled together with the dry beef patty required more effort into chewing rather than enjoying. The guacamole on top was also a bit lacking and perhaps adding some more on top could've helped with its dryness. The grilled pineapple was perhaps the best part because it was grilled with a nice and not-too-overpowering-char, but it also included bits of the core which provided a tougher texture compared to its soft and sweet outer fleshy part.
Overall, this was unfortunately not the greatest experience and I was disappointed that I could not experience the pleasant experience other diners/reviewers were able to have. I cannot comment on the other dishes since I haven't had them yet, and they may very well be more flavorful and enjoyable. I believe Marcela Cocina Mexicana has the potential of being a great Mexican restaurant for locals around the area, and I hope they are receptive to my minor critiques on how they can improve the abovementioned dishes.
