Lifesavers. Prior to stumbling across Tribeca PT a couple months ago, I had been seeing physical therapists 2-3x week for nearly 15 months across 4 clinics in Manhattan. In those 15 months, while I had seen bits of success here and there, my condition largely declined to the point that I was utterly debilitated; unable to sit without intense pain, walk more than a few feet, or stand for more than a few minutes. However, under the care of Dr. Kristian & team, I saw more improvement in 4 weeks than the previous year; that is not hyperbole!
Important to note that this does not serve to take anything whatsoever away from other clinics & physical therapists! It speaks more to the strikingly distinct methodology & approach (outlined below) Tribeca PT employs, which, in my case, was required given the extensive, full-body nature of my injuries (for context: I am a former athlete diagnosed with FAI, gluteal tendinopathy, miserable malalignment, hip labral tears, lumbar DDD, disc herniations, Drop Shoulder Syndrome, Degenerative Scoliosis, hypermobility, and a slew of postural & gait issues). Injuries, especially the debilitating ones, can take a devastating toll on one’s quality of life, mental health, and general outlook for the future. I am passionate about helping other people who are suffering through these experiences, and this review is for those people.
What makes Tribeca PT stand out:
1-1 sessions, exclusively, for 1 hour. No stepping away to work with other clients leaving you to “figure it out.” They watch every single rep you do to ensure you are doing it correctly.
Entire PT staff have doctorates & are extremely knowledgeable.
Eagerly request feedback on what is working & not working. As a client, it can sometimes be hard to suggest program changes to the authority, but they get ahead of this through constant and transparent communication.
Highly anatomical perspective drives program design. What I mean by this: often times, injuries reduce one’s body awareness, so while you may have a comprehensive list of things you feel you need to explain about your body, it can be hard to articulate because you yourself aren’t entirely sure. Here, I did not have that issue. They have highly specified techniques whereby they can tell the underlying musculoskeletal deficits driving your symptoms/condition, from which they craft focused, complex exercises targeted to your body. Many of the exercises are so niche that I would have never found them online or felt comfortable doing them if I had. In my experience, this is one of their greatest & most appreciable strengths.
Manual therapy (i.e. a medical/physiotherapy-driven massage) by a specialist physical therapist offered each Friday.
Phone/computer app containing your daily exercises, complete with written & video instructions on form. Progress-tracking is easy and convenient.
Beautiful, well-lit, & ambient space in Tribeca (and they are expanding in July 2023). You are never colliding with other patients.
Culture of meaning & impact pervades the organization, driven top-down by the founder (Dr. Kristian).
The most welcoming, kind, & friendly staff imaginable. It is truly a joy to see them each day.
I am clearly a passionate supporter of this place. They have drastically improved my quality of life - and sense of hope - when others could not. I absolutely trust them with my care and emphatically encourage you to give...
Read moreI started coming to Monica because my knee was hurting whenever I tried to go for a run. I'd never done PT before so I'd expected it to just be a bunch of tedious exercises, but it's truly been so much more.
Working with Monica hasn't been an effort to simply "fix my knee”, but retraining how I use my body altogether. Sure, I feel lighter and stronger now when I run and that’s been really encouraging. But what’s really changed my life about PT has been how I’m starting to understand my own body. It’s been so cool to feel out all the quirks and asymmetries of my body and to really experience what it’s like when I’m zenned out and 100% focused on what my muscles are doing.
I’ve never minded exercise before, but I don’t think I really knew how awesome I could make my body feel through movement. I’m now actually excited to warm up because I’ve seen for myself how much better it feels when I’m not stiff. I’d also always sort of done yoga “because I should” in the past, but after applying the attunement I’d learned to feel from PT, the practice of yoga has completely taken on new colors for me. Taking time to take care of my body now feels like a real treat or like a legitimate hobby, rather than a chore. It’s been a totally unexpected journey, especially when I think that all I’d come in for at first had just been to be able to go for jogs again.
If nothing else, I really look forward to going to PT because it’s a pleasant highlight of my week. The space is very calming, not just from the soothing ambiance but from how chill and amicable Monica and Kristian are every time you walk in. Also getting stretched at the end of each session is sooooo yummy and better than any massage.
Monica makes it look easy, but she has honed an expert eye and there is nothing quite like having her individualized attention on the unique way that your body’s mechanics work as you go through exercises. She really knows her stuff, is wonderful at guiding you, and I've learned a lot from her about what "getting stronger" really looks like. I'm so glad my knee decided to start acting up all those months ago, because I feel like I'm going to be able to use what I've learned at PT for the...
Read moreI feel like a superhero!!!! And, I am so happy to be able to say that because just four weeks ago, I felt broken. I could not bend over to tie my shoes. Getting dressed was painful. Sitting was excruciating. It was awful.
I woke up one morning (on vacation!) and could not get out of bed, having to slide my feet off the side to the floor and somehow push myself through the pain to stand. Since I was traveling, I tried local massages, which eased the pain temporarily, though each morning I continued to wake up in more pain than the day before, even visiting the local urgent care doctor because the pain was so debilitating. She told me it was just muscle spasms and prescribed relaxers, which did not help, saying it would clear up on its own in TWELVE weeks.
This absolutely could not wait for my return to NYC!!! I was fortunate to do a couple of telehealth sessions with Tribeca Physical Therapy. This was my very first experience with physical therapy and I had no idea how it was going to go.
Dr. Kristian and Dr. Monica tag-teamed to properly diagnose my issue (I was sleeping on my stomach with my leg at a weird angle, which caused a bulged disk). They each gave me different exercises to calm my body down and begin strengthening the adjoining muscles. After the second telehealth session, I felt soooo much relief!
When I got back to NYC, I scheduled in-person sessions. As good as the telehealth visits were, in-person sessions were AMAZING!! Dr. Monica was able to stretch my body out, teach me different exercises to be working on between sessions and get my body to fully relax so it could actually heal. I went for six in-person sessions over two weeks and am fully back to normal.
I am SO grateful that Tribeca Physical Therapy was able to put me back together in such a short...
