RACIAL BIAS/ THEY RUINED CHRISTMAS When we arrived on Christmas Day we were pleasantly greeted by a woman but then a man stepped in while we were waiting to be seated (who we later learned was Mike the beverage manager). He told his team where to seat us and asked that they call Lauren to service us. As we were being escorted to our seats it seemed like a never ending walk upstairs to the very back of the restaurant between two waiters stations despite having a reservation and there being seating available on the main floor. There was also a curtain covering the inventory closet which was slightly ajar and the cooking area was behind us with a greasy acrylic window divider. It felt weird because we were the only black people in the restaurant at the moment and we were being pushed away from the other guests that were dining also seeing as the couple that was sat right before us were seated in the main dining room. It felt very much like the for colored only section. We decided to ask the manager Mike about his decision to have us seated in the back and he fumbled over his answer too many times to make us feel confident that the decision was not racially motivated. Immediately after he said he had a new table for us. Funny enough how a new table magically opened up. We refused, but then the damage control started. All of a sudden this empty corner room where we sat alone began to fill with other people. OUT OF NOWHERE!
Our order was pretty simple. We ordered the Caesar, fries, filet mignon and macaroni and cheese. The Caesar salad had wilted lettuce and a bitter dressing that was nowhere near what a Caesar should be. It was absolutely disgusting and we had to send it back. The fries were cold and pretty flavorless. I ate them anyway, we waited to have what we thought would be a great dinner so we arrived hungry. The filet mignon was charred almost to burnt on the outside and the inside was weird and stringy and not indicative of the high quality you would expect from such an expensive cut of meat at a Wolfgang establishment. To add insult to injury, the waitress Lauren assumed we were sharing the steak and had it brought out cut in half. The filet was tough, cold and flavorless. How disappointing on so many levels for such a high quality cut of meat. The Mac and cheese was pretty bad and in dire need of salt. We got it based on Lauren’s recommendation. When we asked if she liked it instead of explaining the flavor profile she decided to enlighten us about how it’s made with a bechamel sauce and going through step by step of what a bechamel sauce is funny enough my wife is well versed in food and I’m a French trained chef we didn’t need the rundown and thought it was weird that she assumed we had no clue!
During this time I would like to also say that Lauren NEVER once asked us how we were doing or how the meal was. At one point my wife called her name and Lauren did not respond.
The Manager Mike sent us a complimentary shrimp cocktail after we sent the salad back. The problem is a waiter came to our table and just said here’s your shrimp. We told him we didn’t order it and he took it back. Then he came back and said it’s complimentary and put it on our table. Never once were we ever asked if we had a shellfish allergy. I guess they figured something free would shut us up but nonetheless we refused it.
We ended up spending a little over $175.00 to sit in a time out corner, eat old salad, cold fries, bland macaroni and cheese and overpriced steak that barely mirrored a filet mignon.
When we were exiting Mike the manager asked us how everything was. We told him we were extremely disappointed given the weight of the name behind this restaurant and the placement in the Four Seasons hotel. He insisted on giving us his business card but the damage was done. We left disappointed, underwhelmed and hungry. To be honest, this restaurant simply didn’t make the CUT! UPDATE 2/17/24 The general manger Massimiliano Cortese reached out and promised us a refund. This has yet to happen. So overall they don’t stand...
Read moreFirst and foremost, I want to thank the staff at CUT for making our dinner the best and most memorable dinning experience we’ve ever had.
Beyond 5 star, not only was the food top notch, but the staff went above and way beyond my expectations!
My wife is a huge Wolfgang Puck fan… HUGE! One of her dreams was to eat at one of his restaurants (hopefully while he was there so she could give him a hug. Lol).
I booked a reservation as a surprise for my wife; it was for our 20th anniversary. I wanted it to be extra special this year, and thanks to the staff at CUT, it was. The first time I proposed, I was poor and couldn’t afford much. For years I promised her a proper engagement ring… it took longer than expected, but, this year was the year. I mentioned this when I made the reservation and that I planned on asking her to marry me… again. The staff took this info and ran with it! Lol
When we arrived at the restaurant, they were expecting us… I mean, beyond the fact that we had a reservation. We were shown to our table, and not just any table, the best table in the house! The hostess, I’m not good with names, but I think it was Danielle, was great… all the staff were, in fact! They were very attentive and made sure we were completely satisfied with everything. Being a special occasion, I ordered the Japanese Wagyu. It was cooked to perfection; super tender and buttery! My wife had the Branzino, also wonderful! All of the food was fantastic! We didn’t realize how large the portions were and so order too much, but I’m glad we did. Everything we ate there was an absolute treat to the palate!! Our sincere compliments to the chefs in the kitchen! To drink, my wife had the “Peace On Earth” which she loved. I had the Glenmorangie 10 year, my favorite Scotch! Everything they gave us was of the topmost quality and cooked to perfection… then came dessert…
This is where the truly beyond expectations came in. I ordered a chocolate souffle and discreetly got the new engagement ring ready. When the souffle came, it wasn’t alone! Another server came out with a second dessert that had written on the plate “Happy Anniversary”… and then the hostess came out with a THIRD dessert, a cheesecake, and on it’s plate was written “Will you marry me… again?”… that one even surprised me! It was SO perfect!! I then explained to my wife what this was all about and presented her with the ring… to say she was happy is the understatement of understatements! I proposed again, and she said “yes” again. Woohoo!!
The staff, both in front and in the kitchen, definitely live up to the Wolfgang Puck name. We could not have been happier with the whole experience!
… And, Mr. Wolfgang, sir, if you happen to read this, my wife loves you, almost as much as she loves me… lol. I hope next time you’re in NYC we can snag a reservation so she can meet you… her life won’t be complete until she gives...
