WHITEROOM Salon Williamsburg Brooklyn — Local services in New York

You know that sinking feeling when you try a new stylist and immediately regret it? That’s exactly what happened to me. I booked with this salon because they’re local and had decent reviews, but I wish I had trusted my gut.

First off, they clearly don’t know how to properly dye thick hair. I was in the chair for six hours maybe more honestly with no real warning about how long the process would take—just vague reassurances of “we’ll be done soon.” Eventually, I had to leave because it was dragging on endlessly, I mean I’m telling you if I remember correctly 12pm was mt appt and I had dinner @7pm and barely made it on time….

Every time I’ve been to a reputable salon for blonde treatments, they’ve had an assistant helping when they see my hair type- helping with the dying and the washing- it was just 1 guy doing it all…. So yeah, That wasn’t the case here. The stylist (whose name I honestly forgot—bless his heart, I don’t think he meant harm) just didn’t have the support needed to complete the service in a reasonable time. I overheard another employee even mentioning something about it, which only confirmed my suspicions.

I left the appointment feeling desperate to GTFO. I didn’t even care at that point as long as I gtfo….My hair was still wet, the color wasn’t what I wanted, and I literally cried when I got in the uber. And like most of us in this situation, I still smiled and said, “Love it!” before walking out.

The worst part? I ended up with actual chemical burns on my scalp—raised, painful burns that were like bloody? Idk… I had to do multiple hair masks just to repair the damage, and my girlfriend kept telling me, “You need to write a review bc these burns are not ok!” (I do have proof happy to attach here)

Yeah so $450 for a botched color, wet hair, and zero customer service and far from feeling sexy…. No thanks. Maybe they’re fine for small services, but they are not equipped for long, complex treatments. Trust your gut—and your wallet. I sure wish I had. Sorry guys it...

Stellar pandemic etiquette and the star treatment at Whiteroom!

I booked a full highlights session with a creative color add on with Marta at Whiteroom and ended up being at the salon for the better part of the day- which gave me plenty of time to observe the right way to operate a business during a pandemic (take notes America). Prior to the visit they sent an email, addressing all the safety precautions they were taking in the salon and it really put my mind at ease to know that Whiteroom really makes safety during Covid19 priority #1. The salon has done a masterful job of managing the risk during this pandemic and I truly appreciate all of the safety measures that have been put into place to keep each individual client and the staff safe. They screen temperatures and offer individually wrapped face masks at entry, they have hand sanitizer available for frequent use, the salon is kept immaculately clean with frequent disinfection throughout the day and especially between clients and most importantly, they keep capacity low, so you never feel like you are putting yourself at risk.

Outside of the stellar pandemic etiquette, the services with Marta and hair assistant Andrea made me feel like I was getting the star treatment! I feel that when a client has Marta as thier stylist they are part of a team working together to achieve a desired result. Marta is so inclusive in making you feel comfortable and confident in your vision that even when something doesn't strike realistic, she knows how to execute and communicate her experience and expertise in a humble, professional and effective way so that you really get the bang for your buck! Marta, simply, is an artist when it comes to hair; she knows not only how to achieve beautiful transition between shades of color but also creates dimension and vibrancy in her skilled application. I'm so thankful I had an opportunity to come to Whiteroom and work with Marta. Her creativity, vision and dedication made me and my hair look and feel...

Whiteroom is the best. I've been doing my hair there for over 3 yrs and can't recommend it highly enough! It's a cool space with substance, nice staff, high quality and perfectionist professionals. Elisabeth is a genius colorist and LP's haircuts are meticulous + amazing. They will take their time to make sure you get to what you're looking for and leave happy. And their playlist is awesome too, which is a nice plus.

Editing my review some years later (it’s been almost 10 years now since my first appointment!) to say I’m still a very happy client. Since then, I’ve had highlights with Marta at the end of 2023 while Elisabeth was on leave, and again today with Ian (June 2025). They’re both amazing - super skilled and totally get what I’m going for. I like low-maintenance color, so I usually ask for soft, natural-looking "sun kissed" highlights that grow out nicely without obvious roots. I literally went over a year without a touchup and my hair grew out great after Marta's highlights. I’ve never gotten such great results anywhere else. Excited that Ian also did such great job. The quality of the products they use is amazing; my hair never feels damaged like it did when I got highlights at other salons. I also got a haircut with Dayna today and she nailed it. I always leave happy....
