Read more3/5 This is way overdue. I stayed there at the end of October/early November. The first thing I wanna mention is the staff.Unparalleled. The service here was FIRE. I wound up with an infected lip ( recently pierced), and I woke up at 4 in the morning looking like a Simpson's charachter. I was traveling alone, with no one to tell me I was being over dramatic by needing the ER at 4AM, so I explained to the night mgr guy downstairs what was going on. He WAITED WITH ME FOR MY LYFT, and when I was freaked out and then having LYFT issues, he helped me figure out what I was doing wrong that they kept not coming. You wanna talk about "going out of your waY"? That's what it looks like. Waiting with a freaked out stranger for their ride to arrive, as said stranger carries on about what business they came to NY to conduct ( that was now mostly totally cancelled ,courtesy to my lip). Okay.NOT ONLY THAT.NOT ONLY THAT. Later on during my stay ( I was there 8 days), the mgr. that was like THE mgr.... called to make sure I was okay. DUDE. I don't even have people I'm CLOSE TO that would even do that. I promised I would give a glowing review. Their staff are genuinely just...rad. and Genuinely kind real ones.I am well traveled and have never had service that good ANYwhere at ANY time. Now let's talk about the snacks/rooftop bar. I am a night time girlie, so I got in late, and was starving. The food upstairs is honestly some of the best I've ever had. I had some type of dumpling with like chilli and lemongrass and I'm here to tell you... that was one of the best things in my mouth that trip. Holy MOSES .and I'm a foodie that has been highly exposed to Portland, okay? I am a judgey virgo. I had a cocktail( which was okay), and went outside to admire the view. The rooftop is magical, but I wish they served drinks out there. I can't remember what the deal was with that. Like I could go out there, but I couldn't eat out there maybe? and the music was obnoxious. Some people really like House. I don't. There were Halloween ongoing around the time I was there , so there was a lot of repetitive "boom boom", and thought I was gonna have to ask to change rooms. The walls are thin. No thanks. THe shower was cool, but very odd. After walking forever in NY ( like you do), I was happy to sit down on the weird little shower bench, but the shower has no boundary from the toilet, and there is no shower door blocking the water from getting all over the bathroom floor, and they give you a towel to step on ( which gets soaked). So I had to ask for new towels a lot, and didn't like that. The staff is SO nice though. With all the walking, I wound up with bleeding blisters, and they didn't have band aids anywhere, or with staff. Which was crazy to me. The neighbors had unextrordinary..relations....and then when new neighbors happened, I could hear someone barfing. If I am paying that much for a hotel..... (it was extrordinarily expensive..like the Ritz on a Tuesday expensive).. I expect to not hear awful techno all night, knowing about my neighbors .. intimate life....and knowing my neighbors intolerance for whatever he ate and made his wifey clean up ( apparently). I ONLY won't rebook because it was FAR. Like I walked at least 20 minutes with sore feet and a sore dance body JUST to get to a train, I love Williamsburg though and there are killer restaurants nearby, and Night of Joy is a must bar go-to.There is this one place that makes a crepe an ice creamcone shape and then you fill it with ice cream.I had matcha ice cream.... and get the red bean filling one. That was SOO good. There is also a killer deli down Bedford that will make you the best sandwich of your whole life. I told the manager guy I would try to remember, names but as luck would have it, I am not a names girl. I am a faces girl. However, all staff deserve a significant raise. Spend the money. They are worth it. Oh yes and the breakfast lay out. Skip. The coffee is horrible. Go down the street . The food upstairs! The portions are small! The Bedding is sorcery...
The worst possible place to stay in Brooklyn.
Where to even begin.
I was eaten alive by bugs in my room. I woke up with HUGE welts all over my body. I went down and told the front desk. They did not more my room or take any action. When i checked in with them later that day upon returning, they said they cleaned the room. I subsequently woke up with new bites each day and alerted the front desk. They wouldn't move my room or fix the issue.
The staff is awful. Rude, inconsiderate, unhelpful. At check-in, I had the pleasure of listening to the front desk manager talking to another hotel staff about a sexual conquest in detail. I honestly couldn't believe what i was hearing.
Later that evening, we had come back from an event and sat down in the lobby to quickly hammer through a speech before retiring to our rooms. The front desk staff told us we weren't allowed to sit in the lobby or the restaurant as it was being cleaned. We explained we just needed a few min to work together before going to bed. However, they rudely told us we could not and we had to go despite there being multiple empty places to stay and no cleaning crew in site. We wound up standing in the corner holding our laptops as we worked. In the 25 min it took us to finish our work, we never saw a cleaning person. We were forced to stand in a corner for no reason while the front desk staff joked around and played games at the desk loudly.
The rooms themselves leave a lot to be desired. The small rooms are beyond small with a poor layout. Barely room for a bed. Sink in the room. Bad layout and design.
If you have to book a group booking, run and hide. Honestly can't imagine a worse experience. Did it twice and Amy who runs the group bookings couldn't be bothered. It's a full time job to try to track her down. She doesn't have a line or staff. Call the front desk, they transfer you to the restaurant. Call again, they transfer you to her cell which is full. It's a joke. The only way I got her to respond was to CC the manager.
We had so many issues with this hotel it's hard to share them all. The rooms are small. The staff is awful.
Now for the positives, which don't make up for the negatives. The food is great. The bar is fun. The roof has an amazing view.
I brought the hotel manager and general manager into the conversation as soon as it became too much to handle. Miguel the hotel manager started off really helpful. Said all the right things. Gave me his cell phone. Made an accommodation for us to work from at night so we didn't run into the lobby issue again. However, quickly became unhelpful when the issues started to pile. Mike Hoover, the general manager, despite being on every email, never once responded to a call or email. Pretty much the level of service i would expect from the leader of this crew.
We put through formal complaints with Marriott as well as the private group that owns the property. This is a new Marriott space and absolutely doesn't meet expectations. We also reported the property to NY health and safety.
If you want to party on the roof and have somewhere to crash after. This is your spot. As long as you want to drink yourself into unconsciousness and need to stumble home. Any other use-case, i would rather sleep...
Read moreWe first stayed at the Moxy Brooklyn/Williamsburg in November, 2023. We chose it because we like a more boutique hotel and it read like a fun place to stay. We were visiting our son, and the location didn't disappoint in terms of getting to everything we wanted to do. We loved Bar Bedford for cocktails and for a spot of tea in the morning. At the time, Lillistar was not open, so the hotel was pretty quiet outside of general city noise, and you could get a good night's sleep. Although the hotel failed to fix a charge-station outage on one side of our bed, our overall experience was really good, and we would have given it 4 or 5 stars at that time.||We last stayed at The Moxy was this past weekend, 4/25-4/28. A much different place and much different attitude from staff. Bar Bedford was still a fun place, and we ate at Mesiba, which was really good. But, Lillistar was open this trip and while it's probably a lovely bar, it's very loud and has a negative impact on your sleep if you're up on the 9th or 10th floor. We were first given a room on the 10th floor, pretty much directly under the bar. Thursday night was fine initially. But then the music boom-boom started. The hotel manager stopped by our room to see if we were okay. At that time, the music wasn't that loud. But about a half hour later, the sound level increased significantly. We asked to be moved and we got a room on the 9th floor, basically in the same location. That night, it was okay. Friday was a little louder, but come Saturday night, a much different story. There was a private party at Lillistar and it was LOUD. As in we couldn't sleep loud. Which might not have a been a problem, but we had to be up for an early flight. I called down to the manager around 10 p.m. and was told the music wouldn't stop until 2 a.m. I told her I expected a refund for that night. She told me she couldn't do that, but that she could give us "points." Well, points don't help when you can't sleep because of the hotel bar's loud music, and it doesn't fix what's wrong in that moment. The manager also said that potential noise was noted on the website. I've now looked at the Moxy site and the broader Marriott site and, unless it's in the finest print, there is no indication that the noise level from the bar can negatively impact your stay. There was also nothing in our pre-arrival "What to Expect" email. It's all well and good when you inform your guests of changes or situations that will impact their stay so any changes can be made ahead of time. So, I will be disputing the charges for our stay.||Recommended because: Bar Bedford,...
