Even Worse Than Manhattan Beach location — Unsafe, Sloppy, and Completely Unprofessional

I was genuinely excited to try the new Polish by Sand Spa in Newport Beach since I’m temporarily living in Temecula after losing everything in the Palisades fires. I used to be a loyal customer at their Manhattan Beach location, and was so happy about this location. I was looking forward to coming here once a month. I had hoped Newport would be special. Unfortunately, it was even worse than the manhattan and Hermosa locations.

I paid for the Polish Package, which includes a salt scrub—something I rely on because I have a serious allergy to sugar scrubs. I explained this to the technician five times. I asked, “Isn’t this supposed to be the salt scrub? I’m paying for the salt scrub,” and she kept ignoring me, insisting their sugar scrub is the best. I repeated clearly, “I cannot use sugar scrub. I’m allergic,” and she brushed it off and used it anyway. That is reckless and unacceptable. That was the first time that happened but then recently I went back to manhattan location and drove there from Temecula just for a mani & pedi and they also recently went down hill in their services.

On top of that, she didn’t even apply the mask properly—it’s supposed to be a separate step, but she mixed it in with the scrub and rubbed it on together. It felt lazy and careless, and it really bothered me. I paid for a proper, premium experience—not shortcuts.

The massage was also terrible, rushed and weak with no pressure no effort at all —and both my manicure and pedicure were a mess. The polish on my hands and toes was uneven, full of bubbles, and poorly shaped, with some of my nails even bleeding from being cut incorrectly. I left the salon completely disappointed and uncomfortable. Nothing about this experience was relaxing.

Worst of all, just like at the other locations, the customer service was nonexistent. No one cared, no one apologized, and no one tried to make things right. It’s truly shocking how a brand that used to represent quality has become this careless across multiple locations.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If you’re looking for a clean, professional, allergy-aware nail salon with actual customer care—go somewhere else. Newport Beach just got an incredible new nail salon—Polish by Sand Spa! My fiancé and I saw their doors open on their first day and decided to check it out, and we’re so glad we did. We were warmly greeted by the amazing owners, Megan and Gretchen, with champagne, which made us feel instantly welcomed.

We both got mani-pedis, and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The salon itself is beautiful—cozy, stylish, and so inviting. They have a huge selection of colors to choose from, and the service was absolutely top-notch.
