Matriarch — Local services in Newport

My mother and I absolutely loved our visit to Matriarch! Come with money folks because you are going to want to buy everything 🤣. The entire store is wonderfully curated and makes you feel like a warm hug. Perfect place to grab gifts or get yourself a little cute treat. I wasn’t expecting the large selection of books (children’s, fiction, cookbooks, memoirs - all the best of everything). Love the focus on women’s rights, art, and good vibes here. Met the store owner’s aunt and she was so lovely! I felt her niece’s (the owner) passion for the business through her and you can plainly see it with the careful selection of every item in there. We came for the mini art vending machine, but quickly fell in love and purchased stickers, clothes, a tea towel, and a hair clip! All around amazing and we will definitely be back on our next vacation up the coast 🩵

P.S. street parking is a little hectic as the streets are so small in Newport and there are limited meters, but there is a great parking lot right around the corner that was super accesible, cheap, and just a 2 minute walk by some other amazing shops, a pub, and...

I've been into this store a couple of times in the recent months and it is one of my favorite shops in Newport. It is so bright and colorful, and has an air of maximalism that is my perfect aesthetic. There are art prints, jewelry pieces, clothing items, cards, books, self care items and even stuff for kiddos! Everything is so cool and unique.

Plus, there is a focus on woman empowerment and LGBTQIA+ that is so amazing to see represented. To make it even better, the store is woman-owned and the owner is such a lovely lady. She is engaging and accommodating, and when I would compliment her store she would thank me, which a lot of people don't do. You can tell that she takes time and effort to thoughtfully curate all of the store's items, and it shows! The set-up of the store is also gorgeous and quite user friendly. It's very clean and organized and is not overwhelming (like some stores).

This gem of a store along Newport's busiest streets is a must visit! A women-run business supporting other women and their creativity, Matriarch is absolute sunshine in not just it's decor, lovely art and products but also the kindest, most considerate staff I have ever met! I had gone to explore their very special mini art vending machine (one of it's kind in Rhode Island!) but stayed back for their unique products! Not only were they so supportive and cheering me on as I tried to get the prints I was looking for to surprise a friend but they patiently answered my queries as I looked around ooh-ing and aah-ing over their cute collections! I found the perfect card to commemorate my best friend's upcoming wedding and will definitely be back for the 'Flour Girl's cap!
