Our family recently had the pleasure of visiting The Elms Mansion, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the mansion’s grandeur and the beauty of its surrounding gardens. **Location and Ambiance:** The Elms Mansion is nestled in a charming, historic district, making it feel like a step back in time. The meticulously maintained gardens provided a serene backdrop, perfect for family photos and leisurely strolls. **Tour Experience:** We opted for the guided tour, and it was well worth it. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable, bringing the mansion's rich history to life with engaging stories and fascinating details. Each room was more breathtaking than the last, adorned with exquisite furnishings and artwork that gave us a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of its former residents. **Family-Friendly Atmosphere:** Despite its grandiose nature, The Elms Mansion was surprisingly family-friendly. The staff were welcoming and patient with our children, who were curious and full of questions. The tour included interactive elements that kept them engaged, and they were thrilled to discover the hidden passages and secret rooms. **Amenities:** The mansion offers a small café where we enjoyed some refreshments after our tour. The selection was delightful, featuring locally sourced snacks and beverages. The gift shop also had a variety of charming souvenirs that allowed us to bring a piece of the mansion home. **Overall Impression:** Visiting The Elms Mansion was like stepping into a different era, one filled with elegance and history. It was a perfect outing for our family, blending education with enjoyment in a setting that was both awe-inspiring and welcoming. We highly recommend The Elms Mansion to anyone looking for a memorable family experience steeped in history and beauty. We will certainly be returning, and we encourage other families to visit and create their own cherished memories at this magnificent mansion.

From a wedding photographer's perspective, The Elms is an absolute dream location for capturing a couple’s first look or all of their wedding portraits. The mansion’s expansive grounds, meticulously maintained gardens, and majestic exterior create a perfect backdrop for timeless, romantic photos that highlight the beauty of both the couple and their surroundings. When photographing a first look at The Elms, I love guiding couples to the sweeping lawns, where they can share that special, emotional moment in complete privacy. The combination of the elegant architecture and serene garden pathways allows me to capture genuine, candid expressions against a backdrop that feels intimate yet grand. The soft lighting filtering through the trees, along with the vibrant greens and classic sculptures, frames the couple beautifully, creating photos that are both natural and cinematic. For portraits, The Elms offers endless possibilities. As a photographer, the carefully designed gardens and sprawling lawns provide so many options for creating stunning imagery. The symmetrical parterre gardens, with their manicured hedges and fountains, offer a sense of refinement and balance, while the lush, open lawns allow for more relaxed and spontaneous shots. Every angle, from the grand stone staircase to the tree-lined walkways, enhances the couple’s story, giving me the opportunity to deliver a diverse and visually captivating collection of photos. In my experience, The Elms is the perfect place for couples who want their wedding portraits to feel both timeless and elegant, set against the beauty of Newport’s most iconic landscape. It’s a location that never fails to elevate the moment, resulting in photographs that couples will cherish for a lifetime.

The Elms is a beautifully designed and pristine mansion that is located in Newport, Rhode Island. I brought and treated my wife and myself for a self guided tour of the Elms during our honeymoon in the fall of 2018. Completed in 1901 and designed by architect, Horace Trumbauer, the Elms was constructed and made for Edward Julius Berwind, a 20th Century coal magnate, and founder of the Berwind White Coal Mining Company. Today, the Elms is owned and operated by the Preservation Society Of Newport County and is open to the public for self guided tours. The Elms is listed on the National Register Of Historic Places and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1996. What my wife and I loved most about the Elms were it’s gorgeous interior settings and vast furnishings. We admired and took pictures of the 18th Century French & Venetian paintings, and the Berwind’s collection of Renaissance style ceramics. In addition to the house’s interior, my wife and I were also impressed with the estate’s gardens, specifically the lavish lower garden which features spectacular fountains, marble pavilions and a carriage house. Both my wife and I highly recommend a recommend for everyone to visit and tour this breathtaking historic landmark when vacationing in Newport, Rhode Island.

LOVE LOVE LOVE The Elms!!!! As you walk through the beautiful landscaping and climb the stone stairs to the ornate front door opening to the majestic foyer, you are ushered back...back to a time when beauty, elegance, culture and sophistication were valued and desired. As you meander the hallways of this historic house you can immerse yourself into the everyday lives of the home's inhabitants. The audio tour guides you through the splendor of the parlor, library, dining room and the 'magical' sun room, up the opulent grand staircase to the guest's rooms and through the private suite of rooms for the mister and misses. All the while the audio tour gives you a 'behind the scenes' look into the stories and lives of the servants. You are invited to take the servant's staircase down (which is also quite amazing) into the kitchens and work areas. This is truly a fantastic experience! The home is somewhat handicap accessible. They do have an elevator and the friendly staff is quite helpful and accommodating. There is also a very nice gift shop. They sell novelty items, art work, jewelry, books and much much more.

If you like History, Art, Personal Finance and Architecture, this is the place for you. There is parking space available. No need to find parking spots anywhere else, although the walk is not unhealthy nor too bad. Newport town is a really picturesque place for a nice weather day. The mansion doesn't scream Rich, nor Wealthy. It screams absolute opulence. These people were so opulent, that even over 100 years later, and with far less furniture than this house used to have, this place still amazes, in the 21st century. And the kicker? This mansion was the family's "Summer House"!......WHAT⁉️ You can spend HOURS truly admiring the place and talking to the very knowledgeable curators who are present in every room. Alongside the online tour guide available. We paid tickets ahead of time and online for the $46 tickets. Which allows us to see 3 mansions, any day we want. Since we live over 1 hour away. So now we have an excuse to go back to the area, at least 2 more times. Lots of places to explore and eat or drink are nearby too. THIS place is excellent for a date.
