A visit to the Nitro Bar is an ABSOLUTE must when coming to Newport, and now that this fabulous team has opened a gorggggg new location right in the heart of downtown Newport, you basically have zero excuse not to roll out of bed and get up and at 'em for some delish caffeine and yummy eats, all in an Instagram-friendly environment that will have you in hashtag heaven!
The perennial favorites from their sister Newport location off Broadway and flagship PVD shop are on the menu (peep the Chocolate Bar, which is basically caffeinated chocolate milk and my favorite after-work treat!), but this new locale has an extensive menu of food offerings that are a treat for both the eyes and the palate. Nosh on a Spicy Egg Bowl, featuring local turkey sausage, fluffy scrambled eggs, roasted purple potatoes, and sautéed kale, topped off with extra house made hot sauce (my new fave lunch!), or a GIANT breakfast burrito that will put every other grab n' go brunch roll you've had to shame with its cheesy, salsa-y goodness. You simply MUST get one of their homemade English muffins as well (!!!), incredible served hot n' griddled with butter, or local jam and berries if you want to kick it into summer with style!
The Thames location also stays open late (thank GOODNESS) for all us caffeinated night owls. On Fridays and Saturdays from 5-10 pm, this is THE place to be... sitting at a comfy marble table (perfect for photos!) nomming on Matcha Tres Leches, Affogato made with Nitro Bar's espresso (taste those cherry chocolate hints in the brew!) and local gelato, or the crown jewel of the evening bites - an incredible feat in cake, which is a chocolate // caramel // pretzel concoction of goodness, oozing with gooey caramel in every bite. Big enough for two, but I'm not sharing! There's also a few savory options for nighttime noms - a house made Crunch Wrap that would put Taco Bell to shame, and a Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese so that you can get that #cheesepull photo for Insta!
The staff couldn't be sweeter and friendlier, and in these tough pandemic times, sometimes a cup of amazing coffee served with a smile is all I need to get through a rough day. Nitro Bar Thames Street should be your first stop on any Newport adventure, because are you really experiencing the City by the Sea if you aren't hopped up on the best coffee in town? I...
Read moreas someone who has lived in NYC, the city of long lines for stupid stuff, for almost 5 years now, you couldn’t catch me in a long line waiting for stupid stuff. so! when there was a line outside of nitro bar, this coffee shop I randomly added to our weekend itinerary…I was…annoyed. it must be good? is it worth waiting in a line? cut to 20 minutes later, ordering 3 coffee for my picky coffee family from the nicest people I have ever interacted with at a coffee shop. she suggested we do half sweet if we typically don’t like flavored coffee and that is what I would recommend. The coffees were fantastic and we ended up going back every day even as the line got longer throughout the weekend. Sometimes we went twice. the lemonades were great, blueberry latte killer, vanilla was awesome, banana caramel was surprisingly delicious and cinnamon sugar ended up being my favorite! I had no idea this was the coffee shop I used to watch on TikTok all the time! So I went in completely unbiased but very picky and judgmental about my coffee and my entire family says it’s the best coffee we have ever had. Like the bean itself is toasty and warm...
Read moreIn the words of Tina Turner, their nitro cold brew is 'simply the best'. If a better nitro cold brew in the world exists, I haven't experienced it. (And I've tried cold brews a lot in my travels) Cold, creamy and flavorful, it's like the offspring of a Guinness and a dominant iced coffee.
I live in the Washington, D.C. area, and one of my best friends lives in Middletown. Every time I visit Aquidneck Island, I start my morning with a nitro cold brew from the Nitro Bar. You can even order ahead using their awesome app, so the cold brew is waiting for you, upon arrival.
When I'm in the mood for something a bit sweet -- but not overly so (I really dislike super sweet coffee drinks) -- I order the iced Wilbur (coconut syrup + cinnamon + coconut milk), which is also next level. For food, I've only experienced the avocado toast, and it's super tasty. They've expanded their menu a lot in the last year, and I can't wait to try their new items.
Overall, my only complaint is that they're 400+ miles from me. It breaks my heart! I hope they expand soon.
Keep up the great...
