I just noticed that I am the only person to review anything other than the restaurant or drug store. I guess people who feed birds don't write reviews, and I don't want the readers of my review to think that I am a shill, so I am editing the review in order to prevent that. I have heard very good things about the restaurant and my wife tells me we ate there in the past, but I don't wish to review it.
The only other places I have visited in this strip mall have been the Cardinal Corner bird food and accessory store and the hardware store next door. I buy all of my bird food, feeders and other related equipment at the Cardinal Corner. The people who work there are very helpful and friendly. They are more than willing to help getting it to my car. I should mention that the store is about 15 miles from my house. I don't know what more I can say other than that it is rare for them not to have what I am looking for. I have shopped at the hardware store a few times. It is small, but is more in the style of the hardware store you might see in a movie set in the mid-twentieth century, which I like. It is just too far for me to drive to unless I have business with the...
Read moreThe food is not that great but the service is out of this world lousy!!!! My friends and I get together once a month to catch up. We typically go for breakfast. We have gone here before. It is not our favorite place but it is pretty centrally located.
There were three of us and she asked if we wanted separate checks and we said yes. The food came out in chunks. One person's, then another's, and finally, 5 minutes after the first meal, the third came out. Then it was a pressure to get us out the door. She threw the checks, together, on the table when she delivered the last meal. She never came back to ask if we needed anything more. She then came over and picked up the plates from my friends and brought a "to go" box for the rest of mine. I had not set down my fork or made any typical signs I was done eating but when I finally did finish she never did pick up my plate.
I have waitressed in a previous life and know the tactics used to get people to move on and she used every one of them. The total bill for the table is probably around $40 but this is $40 they won't be seeing again. AND, worse yet, on a Saturday a.m. the coffee was...
Read moreThe North Pole Restaurant, located in the Newport Center, just off of US Hwy 61 in Newport, MN. It is a family friendly cafe, serving mainly breakfast but has hot and cold lunch offerings as well. There is a separate entrance as well as an access through the drug store. Hours are 7am to 2pm every day. Parking is ample. The menu is typical diner faire, but not as greasy. Portions are generous and tasty. Service is fast and the servers know the right combination of attention and privacy. Prices are competitive with chain restaurants that are known for breakfast. There is a very loyal customer base, so be prepared to wait a while during peak breakfast hours. This reviewer thinks it's well...
