I hope that people will read this before they rent from south suburban.
I am moving, I had some small stuff to move so I rented a enclosed trailer. Once they got me the trailer I rented, it was in good shape and fairly new, I thought that the trailer was ok so I'd rent a truck to move the big stuff. I reserved one of there 16' trucks. The 1st truck they brought out the rear tires were almost bald and had a slit in a tire as well. There last truck that was on there lot had good tires and was clean. Once I got going down the road I found out how they maintain their trucks, if you call it maintaining. The a/c didn't work and I could barely keep it between the white lines. I looked under the truck and couldn't see much of any grease on the steering linkage. Being a over the road truck driver, this truck would not pass a dot inspection. I also noticed a lot of sand at my feet which means they did not go thru the truck since its last use or uses. I called their office the next day to let them know what shape the truck was in and to talk about a discounted rate. All I got from the owner was "did you get the move done?". I did get the move completed but the truck was not up to par in my opinion. He wouldn't work with me at all. It is my opinion, after this dealing, that the owner cares more about himself and getting the money than he does about his customers. This is evident from the time you walk into the store because it smells like an ashtray. If this place was next door to me I'd drive 20 miles to rent from...
Read moreI have rented from South Suburban in the past and even though there might have been an occasional equipment issue, I understand how these things can happen, and was always OK when I left. I recently rented a gas-powered concrete saw, but was NOT satisfied. Although the saw worked well for the 20 minutes that I used it, I was disappointed when I returned it. I have used these types of saws in the past, and knew there would be an additional charge for wear on the diamond saw blade. Hence, I was very easy on the saw, using water and making sure I did not cut into dirt. Hence, I found it odd that when I returned the saw, the clerk said I had taken 30 thousandths off of the blade, equating to an additional $85.00 charge. When I questioned the clerk about this, he simply said that I must have used the saw pretty hard. I have used gas powered concrete saws for extended hours under similar conditions in the past, with only minimal saw blade wear. Hence, I can only conclude that either the saw blade was poor quality, or the clerk did not measure correctly. I did not see the clerk measuring the blade before I rented the saw, but he was very careful to measure the blade right at the checkout counter when I returned the saw. Going forward, I would suggest that you insist on witnessing the pre-rental blade measurement and the post-rental blade measurement to prevent any post-rental questions. This time I was NOT OK when I left South...
Read moreHUGE CROOKS! DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Rented two stump grinders from them for a big job. Rented them for 24hrs and picked them up closer to closeing time. Got to the job and started grinding. The one grinder worked as it should but the other one I took controll of siezed to the stump the second I touched it, locking onto it and blowing out its hydraulics and breaking its belt. I was shocked and it took a second to realize why it had happened. The grinder was missing a cutting tooth, and therefore grabbed onto the stump instead of cutting it. A tooth had been negelted to be put on during maintainance. I brought the grinder back first thing in the morning long before it was due back (I would have brought it back that night but missed their closing time by about a half hour) and was told it was all my fault because I must not know how to use it! They charged me for the repairs and full cost of rental, over $500.00 because one of their idiot employees forgot to install a tooth. They knew full well the grinder had not been used to grind a single stump and had broken down immediately becuse the hours were exactly the same as they were when I picked it up, and the area where the missing tooth would bolt in was jammed with wood so tight you could not pull it out with a pliers. IF YOU LIKE GETTING LIED TO AND RIPPED OFF AND PAYING FOR THEIR MISTAKES AND REPAIRS THEN THIS IS THE RENTAL...
