This place is a local favorite and has allot of loyalty but as an outsider with no history to the place I can say it is over hyped. Food was marginal at best and service was actually sub par. This was our second time here and first time was slightly better at least on the service part.
My family and I arrived before the Sunday rush so our wait was short. Be aware this places waits can back up in the late mornings especially on the weekends. That said we were not actually greeted at door by the young hostesses. After being seated one of the hostesses took our drink order & delivered them. That part was good. There was another empty table next to us. A couple minutes later that table was set. The waitress then walked right past our table and greeted them immediately. Not only did she greet them before us but after chatting with them briefly and taking there order she walked right past us again and didn’t even acknowledge us. Then she came back a couple minutes later and took our order. Food was bland my kids said they liked there pancakes but when I asked them if they liked them better than the other place we sometimes go they unanimously picked the other place. I tried a bite and they were flat not fluffy and kind of chewy. I would have been very disappointed. My food was also very bland and not exciting. additionally I had ordered a side of French toast which never came but was on my ticket. The waitress checked on several tables around us including the one that came after us but did not ever come back to our table. She also offered that table boxes. Then after that table paid and left she dropped off our ticket and wished us a good day without asking us if we needed anything else etc. We actually wanted a box for part of a pancake one of my kids wanted to take home for later. I don’t know what we did or why she decided to treated us so poorly but it felt deliberate. I wound up getting a box from the nearby service station my self. When we went to pay I requested the French toast be removed which the manager did and I told him about the experience he seemed too busy to care and only gave a short cold apology before hurriedly leaving.
Good service can make up for mediocre food but sub par service with that same food is upsetting.
I will not return here. There are limited options in the immediate area but I will take any of them over this place. If you’re not a local with undying loyalty don’t waist your money and time on this...
Read moreIn the heart of Newport, where small-town charm still feels real and mornings unfold with unhurried grace, sits The North Pole Restaurant—a place that proves breakfast doesn’t need to be elaborate to be unforgettable.
I came in expecting a meal. What I received was something closer to a memory in the making.
There were no flashy ingredients. No towering stacks of novelty food. Just a plate with a perfectly folded omelet—filled edge to edge with sausage, ham, and melted cheese that clung to every bite like it knew exactly what comfort meant. Each forkful was rich, hearty, and deeply satisfying, the kind of food that doesn’t just feed you—it grounds you.
And the raisin toast? It might have been the most surprising part. Crisp at the edges, soft in the center, generously buttered and gently spiced—it tasted like something your grandmother would’ve proudly served, if your grandmother happened to be a breakfast genius. It didn’t need fanfare. It just needed to be exactly what it was: honest, nostalgic, and quietly perfect.
The coffee was strong and steady, poured with a smile that felt like it belonged in a town where people still know your name. No rush. No pretense. Just good food, served right.
The North Pole Restaurant doesn’t try to be trendy. It doesn’t have to. It understands something too many places forget—that simplicity, when done with care, becomes something extraordinary.
If you’re ever in Newport, go. Order the omelet. Get the raisin toast. Sit for a minute. And remember what it feels like to start your day with...
Read moreThis was my first time here after hearing rave reviews, I was excited to check it out! I was not disappointed! We went at noon on a Saturday and we got a table right away. Although our server, Brenda E., said it was unusually slow. Maybe due to graduation parties. Lucky us!!! We were a party of 5. Four of us ordered breakfast and my husband had lunch, the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was wonderful! Tons of meat and smothered in gravy. Such a huge portion that he had to take some home. That's rare that he can't finish a meal! I had 1 egg lightly basted, half a portion of crispy hash browns and 1 slice of toast. I also added 1 small pancake because the pancake reviews were So good that I wanted to try it for myself. The egg and hash browns were cooked perfectly as ordered and tasted really good. My toast was lighter than I like, so next time I would ask for well done toast. Now that "SMALL" pancake that I ordered off of the 55 and over menu was OUTSTANDING and HUGE! Everyone at our table tried a bite and they all raved about how good it was. I would go there again just to get that pancake! Our server, Brenda E. was fantastic! I can't give her enough praise. We didn't want for anything. She was on top of it. I really liked the under 10 and over 55 menu. Smaller portions and the prices are cheap! I will definitely go back again. I highly recommend that you give them a try. You won't be...
