My family and I have all taken lessons over the past 5 years at the PGA tour academy and have never had a bad experience until recently. Most of the staff is amazing, we love Rhonda, Jason and Din who has since left.
Unfortunately, our latest experience with Matt is one that will never bring us back to the pga tour academy. One day while I was putting with my Son after his group lesson, we were the last ones out there and full disclosure I was a little strict with my son on his pre putting routine that was instilled in him by his coach from the academy and when he didnât do it I would harp on him only to help ingrain it in the process. While doing that Matt was outside collecting the flags and he came up to me and asked me to leave and said we donât want people here that treat their kids that way. Had my son not been there, I probably wouldâve went to jail so Iâm thankful for that because he had no right to tell me how to coach my son. I admit I am a little hard on him, but itâs only out of love and to instill discipline.
I let the situation and just ignored him because itâs clear to me that he is the type of person that likes to go around telling people what to do, but truly has no authority or credentials to even coach at the academy.
A couple month later my wife who was taking a lesson called the academy to schedule a lesson with the gift card I bought her and Matt answered the phone and said and I quote âYou need to contact your golf coach, Iâm not an administrative assistantâ. This is the type of service you get at the Academy? Iâm too good to help when in all actuality he sits at the front desk and answers the phone on a routine basis.
The disrespectful behavior and attitude by Matt the front desk assistant which is exactly what he is and the way he has treated me and my family is unacceptable of any professional establishment. Even if he is having a bad day, you donât treat clients or customers that way.
Like any business, the greeter and front desk staff sets the tone and the environment and every time I have gone in there Matt is always portraying that he is too good to be handling questions, assist with scheduling and just is absolutely rude and disrespectful. I can tell you that speaking with other members at WGV and golf fathers who kids also attend the academy have shared similar experiences and sentiments.
Itâs unfortunate because Todd who is a great guy just took the place over and is trying to do the right thing, but that individual is like cancer and will continue to spread his negativity all throughout that place and will continue to bring it down.
My family and I have moved on and have decided to follow some of the golf professionals that will be soon leaving the academy and going on their own or joining other academyâs because I refuse to be disrespected and have my family treated...
Read moreI've wanted to learn the Aimpoint method of reading greens for a while. I looked on Aimpoints website and found Todd Jones is a level 2 instructor. On the advice of my full swing coach I set up a lesson with Todd. I'm sure glad I did. He was very thorough with his explanations and extremely understanding when I was having trouble feeling some of the smaller slopes. He advised a different way of feeling them and that turned out to be the trick. He also gave me some great drills for my speed control. I played a round the afternoon after my lesson and only had one 3 putt. I feel confident that, after practicing with the drills and information Todd has given me, that my score will improve. After the lesson he gave me very specific notes and spent time making sure I understood each concept. We talked for a few minutes and I told him I was struggling with my driver swing. He offered some advise on a simple technique that I am going to try at my next practice. Mind you, I only paid for a green reading lesson. This advise was offered after the lesson was over. Many high end instructors will simply not spend time with you after a lesson. Understandable since they aren't getting paid but when one does it really shows they care. I've been fortunate to find these kinds of instructors and Tood is definitely one of them. I'm excited to both practice what I've learned and to return for another lesson soon.
On a logistics note, my GPS took me right to the parking lot that is marked "For Students Only". It looks like you are very far from the facility because the main clubhouse is further up the road, which is marked "Service Vehicles Only, No Exit". Don't go up the road, the parking lot is right across the road from the practice facility. You will see a putting green and a small building next to it. That's the building you want to got to. I was confused because I didn't see a driving range but it is on the other side of...
Read moreI was recently informed that the PGA tour academy is under new ownership, so I thought I would come look at the reviews to see what the new management is doing and what changes are being implemented. My husband has taken a few lessons here in the past and my step-son participated in the pga jr league and in some kids group lessons. Our initial experience was great and we were really happy until one day I observed one of the male instructors being very rude and disrespectful to a few of the kids who were not listening and honestly just being kids. I would normally drop my step-son off and leave, but on this day I came back early from my errands and I couldnât believe how arrogant and rude this instructor was towards these kids and I donât think he knew I was there. Sure I know it hard to deal with kids especially when they are not listening, but as professional instructors they should be able to handle themselves better. After witnessing this, my husband and I decided to remove my step-son from participating in golf activities at the pga tour academy because we didnât want him to be around this level of unprofessionalism.
I donât recall the instructors name, but he was a younger male instructor and just always seemed to be unhappy and frustrated and you could tell didnât want to be there nor working with kids. The main instructor Rhonda was just amazing and she always was so pleasant and helpful and really made the experience fun for the kids.
Assuming this one instructor is gone, I think tbhs place is great for golf instruction and we would definitely come back. You canât judge an entire organization because of...
