We tried Pirate Pizza out for the first time last night. We ordered an appetizer of the Pieces of Eight garlic knots and two 18" pizzas. The Veggie Pie and the Cheese Pie. The garlic knots and sauce are made in house and were excellent! The sauce was tangy with a spicy zing to it. The pizza were also excellent. The kids loved the Cheese Pie and momma and I loved the Veggie Pie. The crust had a delicious flavor, the vegetables were incredibly fresh, and just the right amount of chew for the style. Ok, now let me get to the style. My wife and I are from Chicago where they have the best pizza in the US, if not the world 😉 We are skeptical of any pizza place that touts themselves as being "New York Style". I, personally, have had some of the worst pizza in my 51 years in and around the NYC/NJ area so New York Style isn't exactly a selling point for us. This pizza was excellent. Delicious crust and fresh toppings are what most people are looking for in a pizza and this place checks all the boxes. We will...
Read moreSecond best garlic knots in the Jacksonville metro… but not by much! The other place cheated by using chunks of fresh roasted garlic. But the garlic butter here has hints of basil, and the garlic knots are made with their excellent pizza dough.
One of the best meatball subs I have had in my entire life. The meatballs are amazing, firm, juicy with delicious seasoning. The bread was soft and chewy while also holding the large meatballs in place without disintegrating like so many other subs do.
The pizza… the crust does not flop. The sauce is homemade and delicious. It’s not sweet and it’s not bland like so many other places. I would eat a cheese pie from this place any time, any day.
What surprised me the most is the tater tots? YES FRICKIN AMAZING TATER TOTS! Perfectly fried and seasoned, and tastes amazing with the homemade ranch which was also excellent.
I’ll be coming here often. This is my new favorite pizza place in the JAX metro as of...
Read moreThis is our go-to pizza place. The sauce and dough are both tasty in their own right. This is pretty close to what I’ve had in NYC. They make their own dough, sauce, and meatballs in-house. We usually get a pizza with meatball and mushroom and it’s always consistently delicious. It also reheats extremely well. We also sometimes get the steak and cheese sandwich, which is also delicious. The owners are also great. The only negative is that their air conditioner struggles to keep up so in the summer it’s warm inside. But we just go next door to Twisted Turtle for ice cream to...
