Port of Norfolk — Local services in Norfolk

Outstanding experience! Our Facebook cruise group had SO many positive comments about the service and ease of both embarkation and debarkation that I decided I should contribute a review.

The overall guest satisfaction reported by people (unrelated to my travel party) was truly outstanding. Everyone was reporting such an overall fantastic experience with particular attention focused on the friendliness of EVERY employee. From the men who cared for our bags, to each and every person along the lines who gave instructions, to our check-in lady. Wow!

When we left we were wished a happy and safe trip more than 8 times and upon return, we were showered with "Welcome back!" and "Have a wonderful and safe trip home." I'm telling you, it made for such a powerfully positive experience!! EVERYONE NOTICED THE POSITIVITY!!

Check-in and our was VERY well organized and smooth. Luggage pick up was perfect. Our bus drivers and porters were ALL friendly and smiling. Everyone truly did seem to have an awesome can-do attitude that was not only absolutely noticeable but greatly appreciated and refreshing! Nice organized terminal. It is a crowded area with the Naval museum very close. Best to have bell hop take your bags at the curb after having someone drop you off. There is no parking lot here like there is at the Baltimore terminal in Maryland. Best to get in line 15 minutes or less of your boarding time. If you are too early or too late you will have to stand in a long line specifically for too early or late arrivers. So it's best to go at your boarding time. The terminal has clean restrooms and plenty of help after you go through the x-ray security area. Everything is handicap accessible. There is a City parking lot about 15 minutes away via car. You can park there, for a cost, then Carnival has large buses that will transport you and your luggage to the terminal. Since we didn't use that parking lot we can't comment on it. Went on a cruise recently with Carnival Magic and we embarked from the Norfolk port. I had recently heard some mixed reviews but to my surprise this was one of the easiest and smoothest ports I have checked in and out of and I love that it was a short duration to and from the ship. Everyone was also very professional and easily instructed. It might have been the timing that was most convenient but I was impressed with the flow of passengers entering the ship. There were no long lines and another great outcome was although our check in time was 20 minutes away we were allowed earlier access. This definitely made my trip less stressful and for those hesitant sailing through Norfolk port in the future, pick a time where you know would be the less crowded to have an easier...
