DJ Styles Natural Hair Care Studio — Local services in North Miami

So I had to take the time to write about my experience at @djstylesmiami salon. @djstylesmiami is a hairstylist, more specifically a trichologist, who specializes in treating hair and scalp problems. There aren’t to many trichologist in Miami so when @the.cospace recommended her I was overjoyed to check her out for my daughter. My daughter suffers from a very flaky scalp, I’m talking itchy and white a minute after shampoo and conditioning so to see her scalp squeaky clean, without irritation, completely detangled, and curls popping for an entire week has been amazing.

If you know me then you know how important my crown is to me, and even the more for my mini me! @djstylesmiami was quick to respond, book and provide instructions for our appointment which I loved because it left no guess work for me. Also, there wasn’t a laundry list of things to do in meeting for the appointment which again was a plus.

During the session, @djstylesmiami taught me literally EVERYTHING that I needed to know about my daughter’s hair. I gotta tell y’all she blew my mind with the techniques she taught me (I’m talking grassroots stuff like how to properly wash your hair) which she allowed me to do hands on, the technology she used (hair follicle imaging and red light steaming), the clinical write up of hair products, treatments (inexpensive but hair type specific and reputable), as well as time frames for wash days to continue my daughter’s hair growth.

@djstylesmiami even reinforced all the good that I’d done thus far with my daughter’s hair by telling her that the methods that I was teaching her was correct and that her hair was thriving because of it!!! That meant so much because we know society will tell our children, especially our black children that who they are isn’t enough and @djstylesmiami reinforced that not being true. @djstylesmiami was hilarious, welcoming, and a wealth of knowledge.

The appointment was worth EVERY PENNY and as an adult I can say it was my best salon experience EVER! I am so very happy that I could give that experience to my daughter as well and I look forward to post about the appointments and the hair growth...

From the beginning with her prompt responses, and a super engaging and thorough consultation, I knew that this young lady was different from the rest here in Miami. It can be difficult to find the complete package in a stylist in this city, but especially for those that specialize in locs: someone professional, highly skilled and knowledgeable at haircare (aka licensed!), great at communicating and customer service, and that isn't charging outrageous prices.

Although I've had "instant locs" before, I ended up combing them out after 7 years with them. I wanted them again, but was nervous it wouldn't be as good as the first time. Debbie blew me away. She did an even better job than my first instant loc installer, who was also very well trained. I really couldn't believe how great my hair looked right away, and her level of craftmanship was killer. Everyone I know has already been giving all the compliments and asking "Who did your hair!?" I've never felt more attractive. (Isn't that what we all want!?)

She even finished my hair in record timing. However, the process didn't feel long at all because she's so cool to talk to and makes you feel super comfortable, providing refreshments like tea or mimosas, and giving you the remote control for Netflix and Hulu if you like. We didn't even watch because we talked so much, very easy to get along with and a good listener too.

My only -very minor- criticism is she might need a lil pillow for the chair, as long periods in it had my butt going a little numb lol... but it definitely wasn't a dealbreaker at all and it was tolerable with a bit of shifting (plus I'm a kinda heavy guy, to be fair).

Highly recommend DJ Styles. Excited to visit again for a retwist. I doubt you'll find a better stylist in Miami that will get it right the first time, and that won't stress you with unanswered texts or calls and being left on read for days when you've got questions.

Last thing: her bookings go fast, so don't wait! But if you have to wait like I did it'll be WELL worth...

I started going to DJ Styles Hair Studio about 8 months ago and had a positive experience initially. However, my last 2 to 3 appointments have been increasingly disappointing.

At my two appointments prior to getting the Hair Botox treatment, I noticed that the blow-drying technique was very harsh, and my scalp was burned multiple times, leaving me extremely uncomfortable. During my most recent appointment for Hair Botox, the experience was even worse — the blow-drying process caused so much pain and burning that I actually started crying. It wasn’t until I verbally told her “You’re burning me” that she acknowledged it and offered an apology.

Additionally, she used a plastic comb instead of a brush near my roots, which seemed unusual and contributed to the discomfort. Now, about two weeks after my Hair Botox treatment, I’m not seeing any significant improvement in frizz control or overall hair quality — which is very disappointing given the cost and expectations of the service.

Throughout my visits, I also noticed that any time I asked questions about my hair routine or maintenance, the responses I received came with a condescending & dismissive tone, which made me feel undervalued as a customer.

Overall, I’m very disappointed in both the quality of service and the way I was treated during my recent visits. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this studio based on...
