Abusive unethical treatment of my dog during board and train. I contracted for a two week board and train to help me get a head start on working with a bouncy new dog we had rescued. I was told the training was all play and relationship based. I was concerned when I picked my dog up from the two week board and train because he kept trying to run away from the training room and hide behind my legs during turnover. Levi shocked him at such a high level that he cried multiple times when demonstrating commands (he told me that he was at a level 9 on a higher voltage collar than he originally started with because the dog is "stubborn" and "lazy."). I think dogs should always love training or something is being done wrong. Although I am not opposed to e collars in principle, I believe it was overused due to a lack of skill in really understanding this dog. When my dog came home I switched entirely to positive reinforcement because of what I had seen. At first my dog flinched when I gave him commands. He winced and turned on his side. He seemed afraid but like he did not know what to do to avoid punishment. I found an injury on his neck in the area the e-collar had been used. He is now working willingly and happily for me. There is never any "stubbornness" or "laziness." He loves training time. The program I purchased came with lifetime support if I returned for a follow up appointment, which of course I didn't do, because I could not fathom making my dog go back to the place of his mistreatment, and why would I want any more "advice" from abusive psuedo-trainers anyway? I did contact Levi about these concerns and he took zero accountability--which means he will do the same thing...
Read moreIf you are considering whether your dog would benefit from OLK9’s board and train program, he will! We have a Border Collie we bought when he was 10 months-old. After we got him home, we noticed some issues with him we did not feel we knew how to correct. Specifically, our dog was reactive to people, dogs and the leash. He demonstrated an abysmal confidence level when we took him anywhere other than our back yard or the dog park. We felt even though we had several well-behaved dogs in the past, we did not have the expertise to help our dog. Enter Alex at the Northern Utah OLK9. Alex did a phenomenal job! He treated our dog with love and respect. Alex figured out what makes our dog tick and what he responds to. He then customized our dog’s training accordingly. The result: Not only is our dog 100% off leash, but his confidence has increased significantly. No more pulling and cowering on walks. His obedience is spot on. We couldn’t be more pleased. We were concerned about how Alex would implement the E-collar into the training. Alex quickly elevated any negative concerns. We were amazed at how well our dog responded to Alex’s masterful use of the e-collar. Our dog loves Alex and gets excited when he simply hears Alex’s voice. Also, as we love our dog and were concerned about his well being and progress during his training, we looked forward to receiving daily video and text updates from Alex. We consider this the greatest training our dog could have received. We are considering having Alex help us with Therapy Dog training in the future. Alex’s OLK9 board and train program was worth every penny and more! ...
Read moreWe have a 4.5 year old belgium malinois/ blue heeler mix who had a hard time after our German shepherd passed away. He was very nervous and didn't know when he needed to be aggressive or be calm. He liked to jump up on people and would not listen when out in public on walks or at the park. He nipped at a person and after looking for a trainer we decided to go to off leash. Tyler was our trainer and we could not be more gracious for what he has done to our dog. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and most of all he loves the animals! We did the basic obedience training (4 week course). The first lesson was rough to say the least. Our dog was jumping and yelping and wouldn't listen. We came home and worked on what Tyler had started and within a week everyone who came over noticed a difference. We just completed our course and I cannot be more amazed by what confidence he has instilled in our dog. He listens on command, people come to our house and he will stay in any command or place we put him in, and he has just turned into a completely different dog. I was very hesitant to take him to a trainer, because he was such a pain in the butt and I was nervous we would be told he is helpless. Tyler was unbelievably patient with our dog and has turned him into an amazing pup who I now trust to be out front with me and not take off or go after someone. Anyone looking for a trainer should 1000% consider Tyler and off Leash training. You will not be...
