My experience today at this Meijer gets 1 STAR because of what I can only assume is a loss prevention policy -- a loss prevention policy that is a waste of time as it is useless and made me feel as if I were being targeted for stealing. I went back into the store after going thru check out because I believed I was not charged correctly. There was a promotion on Prego spaghetti sauce that said buy two get one free. I put three jars of the sauce in my basket. During check out I was charged for all three bottles. I went back to check and the promotion was buy two jars of Prego and get one jar of meijer brand free. As I was leaving the store Katy M who I assume is a greeter asked me for my receipt. I asked her if she asked every one for their receipt. She said: you went back into the store after you checked out. I asked her what would the receipt show? I held it up for her to look at. She looked away. I told her that this (asking me for a receipt because I went back into the store) was stupid. I often go back into the store if I think I have been charged incorrectly. Nobody has ever asked me for a receipt. I spend way too much money at Meijer for someone to check me using loss prevention as the excuse. If you are not going to take everything out of my basket and compare it to my receipt, why is this being done? Perhaps Meijer should post a sign that this is a policy and have a place for you to leave your purchased items if you go back into the store after going through check out. After I put my grocery in my car, I went back into the store to get Katy M's name. You would have thought we were playing a game of tag and she had to protect the front of her body from me. When she saw me coming, she turned away. When I went around to the front of her she again turned away. It took some effort to see her name tag. I did not give up because I wanted...
Read moreWhen we got there we went in through the garden center. The man working behind the counter out there said "hello" and that was the end of that greeting. No more than 3 or 4 minutes later as I begin to look at the plants outside the roofed area the man then yells to me that the garden center is closing right then. I looked at him a bit dumbfounded and said "now?!"
Why wouldnt he have mentioned that to me upon my entry into the garden center when I first walked in from the parking lot? Why would he not think to mention that important bit of information along with the "hello" he offered as we walked in looking at every yard ornament and plant along the way? If I were a glass half full type of thinker I would be grateful that he saved me money since the abrupt news to get out didnt allow me time to grab any plants that I had came to look for.
After being kicked out of the garden center my 5 year old got a cart for me to use for some groceries. I was excited about the new carts this Meijer location had after getting one. My excitement was quickly erased after somehow stabbing my little toe into the screw that stuck out from inside...
Read moreUltimately I do a lot of my shopping here so I'll give 3 stars. I do think Meijer has the best variety in the area. Their sale items are fairly priced. The convenience of having home goods is nice.
As someone who has lived in 6 states and has shopped at dozens of big name grocery stores, I honestly think Meijer is my least favorite. It's impersonal, unwelcoming, slightly over priced, the least coupon friendly. Sale items are always out of stock. Meijer is by far the least kid friendly. I used to go after I put the kids to bed but evening (8:00pm on) shopping is impossible due to the mess made for stocking shelves. If Meijer wants to improve on any of these things, I suggest they look to Kroger as an example of perfection. They have kid carts, car carts for kids to "drive", free balloons for kids, carts go right up to cashier so you don't have to unload. Employees don't treat you like you ruined their day... they help you to your car. Coupons are doubled... Just a few of the things I miss...
