While the ice cream was a large and various selection it was nothing special especially considering it’s ridiculous prices. It would have been a cute stop but unfortunately every worker there somehow found a way to be more rude then the first. I came with my family and walked in and was looking at the flavors from afar not in any bit in the way and a worker yelled at me to get in line. Yelled. While I was waiting in line my aunt had her three little girls with her and they tried to look at the different flavors so they could decide what they wanted. They were yelled at as well and my aunt was told that she needed to leave the building since she already received her order. They wanted her to leave her kids behind. She completely refused multiple times and they yelled at her girls to order when they had no chance to look at the flavors. It gets worse. There were people in front of me and my family and we hadn’t reached the spot to order yet let alone had the chance to look at any of the flavors. A different worker looked at me and said in the most condescending voice you can imagine, “are you guys gonna order or are just gonna sit in the shop for no reason,” and at that moment I would have left had the rest of my family not been there. It was truly the rudest and most horrible service I have ever seen and will never go back there again. There is a sign in the window that says Ben and bills captures the character of the island and if that is true then Martha’s Vineyard is a horrible spot...
Read moreI'm always on a lookout for unique food pairings so when I found out that this place has a Lobster Ice Cream, I knew I have to try this. I mean two of my favourite food in the world - ice cream and lobster, what can possible go wrong right?
My SO got the Black Forest ice cream and I opted for the Lobster Ice Cream (kiddie size) in a cone. The Black Forest is okay but the star of the show is really the Lobster Ice Cream.
I knew that when people think of lobster ice cream, they would be grossed out by the idea. I get it as I also was hesitant to try it at first but was really glad that the gutsy, adventurous side in me tried this ice cream coz it was heavenly.
The buttery and creaminess of the ice cream with bite size real lobster is a match made in heaven. There was no fishy taste nor after taste which was surprising to me. You won't even taste any lobster flavour until you bite into a chunk of meat.
I would say the taste comparison after trying a few licks would be like eating a frozen lobster bisque.
So next time you find yourself in Martha's Vineyard, seek out this coastal treat. I assure you will be blown away by this...
Read morePopped into Ben & Bill's while on vacation with friends in Martha's Vineyard. Oak Bluffs has an almost alarming number of ice cream shops. It felt like every third store was an ice cream shop! Our friends said that Ben & Bill's was the best ice cream in town and the fact that they also sell chocolate had me sold. I only enjoy dark chocolate so I purchased an assortment of both the vegan and regular dark chocolate. The first piece that I tried was the vegan dark chocolate coffee and it was... not good. It tasted kind of like old raisins. I was so disappointed that I almost tossed the whole bag, but fortunately I persevered. The regular dark chocolates that I purchased were great and I wish I had bought more of them. The highlight was the dark chocolate blueberry truffle. My husband got the heath bar ice cream and said he enjoyed it. Really cute shop with a huge variety of chocolate truffles...
