Food Lion — Local services in Oak Island

Food Lion has been my go to for years. The store is clean and the prices are better than most. It’s sometimes hard to find a parking place closer to the building at certain times, but it is probably that way at most places. I have a hard time walking, so I have to park close, and this Food Lion has a narrow parking lot that at certain times can be crowded, otherwise the store is radio accessible and very clean. I would give 5 stars except for one reason. I cannot stand waiting in line, and the cashier open another register and allow everyone at the end to just walk a head of those of us waiting already. Two visits in a row another disabled person and myself were standing next to each other, in different lines, about 5 back, when one of the management literally walked over and asked the person behind me to move the line over to his register. I apologize to the lady beside me and to the people in front of me. I feel horrible for those that have been standing in line. I would gladly let anyone get ahead of me if they were in a hurry but to intentionally allow people to get ahead of others that are already in line is inexcusable. Enough said, Food Lion, has helped my family raise three children over the years, because of their prices. I would highly recommend them mostly over any other store, with every thing except produce. I recently visited Food Lion and unfortunately, I had a negative experience. When trying to purchase a non-alcoholic beer, I was asked for identification, which seemed unnecessary given that the product contained no alcohol. The staff was going to deny my purchase until my father stepped in and claimed the product was for him. I was disappointed with the customer service and the overall policy of Food Lion. It seemed like the staff was not properly trained on how to handle the sale of non-alcoholic beverages and they lacked common sense in this situation. Additionally, it was frustrating to have to go through this unnecessary hassle just to purchase a non-alcoholic beverage. Overall, I was not impressed with my experience at Food Lion and I hope they can improve their policies and training to avoid similar issues...

I like Food Lion stores because I think you get the best, lowest prices on good, everyday products. I have had no issues with the employees at Oak Island location. I like seeing regular employees. I am a local, permanent resident. I like having a place I can get everything I need. A few years ago they added some additional shelf products in the international foods section. I feel like I get the most for my money here. Also, I like the price marked is what it is. I don't have to figure out how much higher it is because another local grocery store marks their prices by the pound. I will continue to shop Food Lion.
