We just had a very unprofessional & upsetting experience at this business on OKI. My husband & I are both business owners locally so I donât take making a post about a business lightly. Our daughter called us very upset saying she & our son were being told they could not leave from Beachlife Sweets OKI because they didnât have enough money to pay. She said they had made a mistake on the prices of several candy items and when they got to the register and were told the amount they were shocked. $60 worth of candy but only had $20 cash on them. đ± They were both embarrassed & confused and of course said theyâd have to put the merchandise back. The two adults working immediately told them they werenât allowed to put the candy back & they would have to pay. Our daughter said there was a long line behind them and the lady running the register became rude & short. Daughter said she would go outside to call her parents (we were at dinner in Shallotte) & get a debit card to pay for the full amount. The man working behind the counter then told her she could walk outside but her brother had to stay. She went out, called me & explained & I gave her my card info. She was obviously upset on the phone but was really upset b/c she said the lady yelled at our son & he was upset b/c he was left alone with these rude adults in the store. Daughter said she & son had remained calm & polite but that both adults were upset & raising their voices, clearly annoyed and becoming angry. When daughter went back inside with the debit card number the man told her he wasnât going to be able to put in the card info manually so they were going to have to âfigure something out.â He told them they could not leave without full payment. Rees had already given $20 towards the purchase. She asked if she could please return in the morning after church, as soon as they opened, to pay the balance. Not once did either adult ask to speak to myself or husband to resolve the issue. The woman told daughter she needed her drivers license to make a copy of and then said she could leave if she would come back tomorrow. The entire line was held up during all of this, not one single person offered to pay the difference or even offered a kind word in their assistance. OVER SOME CANDY! Both kids were a wreck when they left & called us back. Son said when daughter went out to call us that the lady lit into him saying he was irresponsible & shouldnât be going into a business to get anything without having enough money. He said she accused him of trying to steal and was looking for a handout. đĄ Husband & I went straight to the business to resolve the matter and pay the money within 30 mins of the encounter. I canât say what exactly happened since I wasnât there when the kids were but I can tell you both of these adults were AWFUL to both husband & myself as soon as we stepped in the store. I asked if they were the owners and I was told in a very rude tone that they were in fact the managers. This was before they knew I was the parent of the previous problem customers. Let me wrap this up to say the encounter between myself & the woman manager was not pretty. She let me know that I should be thanking her for paying the balance on the candy from her own pocket. She denied anyone yelling at my son. She interrupted & talked over me the entire time I was trying to explain myself and pay the bill! When asked for copy of DL info she took from daughter, was told she only did that to intimidate daughter! Reminded her she was dealing with 16 and 12 yr olds. My kids were obviously in the wrong & were unsure how to make it right. I advise you all to take your money somewhere else where they will not intimidate & humiliate children or make them wonder what is intended in order to get pymt for merchandise. Totally inexcusable behavior from these so called managers. They are not representing this business well and I surely hope the owner would not condone this awful handling...
Read moreWe were waiting in line to ask if they sold the boba tea there (because a lady next door said they do sell it two doors down and pointed in the direction of Beachlife Sweets), when I noticed an employee who wasn't doing anything standing there at another register. She had blonde hair and she was wearing a hoodie, a hat and had a nose ring (for reference of who it was). I waved at her to see if I could ask her and she acknowledged me, so I asked if this was the store that sells Boba, and her response was, "No we don't sell that, that's what signs are for!" I told her that we did use the signs in the direction that they appeared for the correct business, and we were wrong and the other store led us to this store, but she didn't need to be rude! We had planned on stopping here on our way out of town as we always take goodies home with us, but I will not be stopping here anymore after that interaction. I'll take my money to a business that values...
Read moreHave you ever heard the song from Boss Baby, âHeavenâŠâŠ iâm in heavenâŠ..â. This is the best way I can describe the store. Its so stinking cute, there is soooo much candy there. Sour candy, spicy candy, candy that I have looked for years (maple nut goodies) because it had been discounted at big stores. The ice cream and shakes were so good. They have a fun mini arcade and I just loved the store. It was truly the highlight of my day and I loved everyone there. The decorations were so beautiful, so fairytale like and it makes you feel like a child again. I think about this store all the time and I hope they stay in business forever. If I could, I would make the 2 hour trip to go...
