Planet fitness in West Oakland is just OK. They could step up their cleanliness standards that's for sure. I know it's a budget gym but I shouldn't have to remove other people's hair from the drains when I take a shower. The water is hot but the air is cold so that's kind of uncomfortable either way in the locker room.
Planet fitness has never been known for all the extra humanity such as a sauna and swimming pool but it's a good place to break a sweat and get your heart beat Going. 1st time I went in, without any tour being offered, I showered with plain water as I realized planet fitness doesn't give a d* enough to supply soap but then again I guess this isn't my old gym. On the 2nd visit a bar of soap was packed in my bag along with the padlock for the locker and rub a dub dub. 🧼
Not the best place to meet people because again, West Oakland.
The staff at the front desk are good people, do good work and always are respectful when I walk through the door. Check in is a breeze with the app to scan the QR Code, no questions asked and you're on your way.
It's Oakland so prepare for the shakedown as you walk in with a security guard on duty and a car ready to pounce right outside for all the pending broken windows. Personally I take my feet here and leave the car elsewhere because I know this parking lot very well and it's not nice to windows.
The location is the best thing about this place, right off the freeway and for better or worse there's a McDonald's in sight as soon as you step out of the gym. Gave in to that temptation more than once.
See you at the...

Read moreDO NOT COME HERE if you are bringing in a minor as a guest. I have a Black Card membership and I've been going to this gym with my younger brother who's a minor. As soon as we scanned in today, we were told by the front desk that I couldn't bring my little brother with me unless a mom or dad signs a waiver form. Mom and Dad isn't around anymore and as the bigger brother, I'm the legal guardian. Per membership policy, you can join PF starting at the age of 13 with a parent/legal guardian’s permission; they must be present with you during the sign-up process. Very ironic the front desk told me that when I signed up at that very same front desk. I explicitly told them my parents aren't around anymore and that I'm legal guardian to my brother. Therefore, I should be able to sign the waiver (the same waiver I signed when I first signed up here with my brother). Front desk says mom or dad must sign the waiver (not me, the legal guardian). Don't come to this gym if you're bringing a...
