I stayed here for 4 nights and it did not disappoint. I do agree that lobby area need some improvement as it's very basic, but that does not really affect much of my overall stay experience. Details follow:||1. Location: The hotel is located in the corner of Broadway/9th Street of downtown Oakland. The location itself can be a bit sketchy but honestly it's safe enough for me to wander around even after dark. 12th St BART station is just a few minutes walk with plenty of cafes/restaurant within 5-10 mins walk radius if you want to dine out. Street is quiet and not noisy at night, so it's perfect for a good night sleep. If you're worried about street noise, you can also request room that facing the courtyard instead. ||2. Lobby/Reception: The main lobby entrance is on the 9th Street. The Broadway street entrance is only accessible from inside and once you have your room key. As I have mentioned earlier, the lobby does not look very appealing and it's very basic. The Bistro located in the lobby area also. The front desk associates are very welcoming, especially Faith that always been friendly and helpful during my stays. ||3. Room: The room layout is typical Courtyard, but I'm fairly impressed with the size of the room. It's way bigger than other Courtyards in downtown San Francisco. Although it's a bit odd that the bed facing to the window instead of the TV, but that does not matter anyway. I can just watch the TV from the comfy couch if I want to. Bathroom also has a decent size, good water pressure from the shower. Aircon works very well. Overall, the room is very homey, clean, and comfortable. Note that there is no daily housepping offered, which sadly is a norm these days. Of course, it's still possible for you to ask your room to be cleaned if you need to. ||My final verdict, I think Courtyard Oakland Downtown offer a good value between location, comfort, service, cleanliness, and safety. It mostly hits the right spot, although I do still think the lobby needs a bit revamped because it feels too basic and has...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE!! UNLESS YOU LIKE DISAPPOINTMENT..
I was very dissapointed with my experience.. I stayed here for two nights, and would not recommend. My tv/remote did not work, and my shower was clogged, so I could not shower after working a 9 hour shift. I had to take a "bird bath" just to get clean. That should have never been the case if I am paying for a room with basic amenties!! Front desk staff 'James' did not accommodate or offer to move my room at all. Instead offered to have a houseman come in the morning.. So pointless. Front desk also told me that "there was nothing he could do," about my issues with the tv and room issues. He was sooo unhelpful and made me feel like I was crazy! Turns out he was a manager... Even worse, to learn that. The next day the housekeeping manager assisted me, and offered to change my room with everything being functional. The valet man was also super aggressive upon check in, which was weird to me. I should have gotten refunded or issued some points for my stay, which I did not! They just apologized the next day and moved my room. I will probably never stay here again, and if I do, it will be on desperate measures.. I also work at a hotel so I expected my experience to be better than it was. Not to mention the front desk manager who checked me in told me their security deposit was only $50 per night. For some odd reason, they authorized my card for $300 instead of $100. I called about that and asked about why they charged me an extra $200 for the security deposit on the room. No one could answer an question regarding that manner, but could only tell me that it was a pending charge and that it would go back to my card. It did go back on my card eventually, but it was the principle of it all. The lack of professionalism was unreal and I will most likely...
Read moreThis place is just OK, but the staff were nice, friendly, and super helpful. The directions on how to check in when driving in with a rental car were not helpful for an out of towner (there is no drive-through carriage circle). The carpets at various entrances were not clean, the door handles not polished. Tried to find a working vending machine on 3 floors; 2 not accepting cards or cash (ERROR), the third simply missing; finally found the lobby store. Room had the silliest curved couch or loveseat ever, with a very back-sloping back, no way to sit comfortably. Odd pullout desk not necessary. Big King bed was very comfortable, but blanket and topsheet too short, "bedspread" was like a giant thin crinkly napkin. Pillows supersoft and floofy, needed some firm pillows. TV set was placed on the bureau to the side of the bed, awkward watching angle and anchored to that spot on the desk so you got a crick in your neck watching from bed. Actually no place to sit comfortably to watch TV. One bureau drawer wouldn't stay closed. Nice shower and tub and lighting--but NO low safety bar for seniors along the bathtub wall. Tsk. Odd square decor but clean. OK climate control. Room door not fitted snug to jamb, a lot of light leaking from the very bright corridor at night.
Parking in courtyard convenient and not *too expensive (street parking very scarce so yeah.) The 16-foot kidney shaped swimming pool is silly--it should be converted to a giant jacuzzi! We stayed 2 nights, room was not cleaned the second day (?). Coffee shop off the lobby was OK, scant offering, but a really nice giant attendant. Next time we will try the big Marriott across the street maybe. But again, the...
