Wrong diagnosis and lack of testing resulting in death: I took some time to write this review, so that I made sure I wasn't writing on emotions. Losing a loved one is never easy, but when you lose a loved one that could possibly still be alive today, it is another level of pain. You look back everyday and always wish you had done something different, in this case went for a second opinion. When you take a (x) car, to the (x) dealership, you expect the (x) mechanics to be able to at least diagnose the problem. The same with an all cat hospital. We took another cat here before and now I have had time to reflect on that cat's treatment, I deleted that 5 star review, because it took multiple visits, multiple x-rays, an endoscopy, and a misdiagnosis, for another hospital to diagnose and correct. On December 23, 22 we brought another cat to Brick City Cat hospital when after 4-5 years of 0 accidents, she just randomly started peeing on the bed. When we brought the cat in, the Dr. examined her and said her heart rate was extremely elevated, her urine looked good, but the Dr. couldn't feel her kidneys. She offered an X-ray, which we accepted. When the x-ray came back it showed she was constipated. We had told the Vet. that a member of the household had to be picked up by an ambulance and that the cat, shy to strangers, hid under the bed for a few days. Some how we were told that, that had nothing to do with her problem and that another one of our cats was most likely keeping her out of the litter box. We had a 30 minute siminar on how to correct that behavior. Sounds crazy now, BECAUSE IT IS. 20 DAYS LATER I noticed a yellow tint to her head and we brought her back. We were finally offered blood work, WHEN WE ASKED for it the first time, but were told the cat had been through enough that day, only to be told the next visit she needed to be rushed to the ER. When we took her to the ER., we were told she had a condition called Hempatic Lipidosis. A treatable liver issue, when caught early enough has about a 90% recovery rate. If not caught in time, like 20 DAYS EARLIER when she was still eating and drinking on her own, it has a 90% mortality rate. It is caused when the cat misses a meal for more than 24-48 hours, especial in cats with a few extra pounds. Such a common issue there are many publications about it. Sadly 20 DAYS after our beloved Patti was misdiagnosed, she was too far gone and had to be euthanized, after a few days overnight hospital stay. Had we just been offered and they did bloodwork when we asked for it the first time, her elevated liver enzymes would have shown the reason the kidneys could not be felt, was because her liver was inflamed and she was in a state of hempatic lipidosis. We later learned that her bpm was normal for an anxious cat. Inappropriate urination, muscle loss mentioned on the 23rd, constipation which can be caused by dehydration, are all signs of this deadly, but treatable and sometimes reversable in early stages, disease. Such a common illness that the Vet Tech Intern at the ER knew what it was. We are heart broken. That was a rookie mistake that cost us the life of our dearly loved Patti. I honestly feel like she would be here today had the correct protocol and rutine bloodwork been done. 2 cats, 2 wrong diagnosis, and 2 bad experiences. If she died of an incurable condition/disease or from us not bringing her in on time, it would have been heart breaking, but knowing there were no other alternatives, would have been easier to swallow than knowing there were treatment options available. Hopefully, this helps someone when choosing a hospital for their cat and they don't have to experience the pain we are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here based on a recommendation from a friend to get a second opinion, while both the original vet clinic and Brick City got the same results the way my cat Luna and I were treated could not be more different, while my original vet sent me home with a choice of paying an arm and a leg and a trip to Gainesvile for an Ultra Sound Brick City did it in house at a fraction of the price. More than that I was originally told by my old vet to try to get Luna to eat and give them a call back about my decision, Brick city put my Luna on medication and sent me home with weaponry to try to get her to eat and and the information I needed to get her the quality of life she deserves. I cannot Express how wonderful the people of Brick city are, every staff member I have talked to has been more compassionate and caring to my cat than the original.vet I had. My vet told me to make a decision and I did, i will go to Brick City Cat Hospital, they made me feel like Luna was their pet too and when you have a sick family member you want the best care and that is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am not a client and this rating is solely based on my interaction with Veronica at the Front Desk. I came into today to inquire about boarding my two senior cats in October. Immediately she informed me there boarding is only for established patients ( totally understandable ). However, she was not very forth coming with information, she said she didn't know if they would have openings for when I needed. Someone working behind her spoke up and said I do believe we have openings for October 10 thru 14th. I was given a cost of $30 to $100 a night with not much description info. I declined with ' no thank you'. I just feel she was being intentionally difficult and unwelcoming. I worked for a Veterinarian with boarding facilities for almost 10 years so I know the way its supposed to work and how things go...
