This place looks beautiful on the inside and it has a good vibe and great selection of music. Our food took a very long time to get to the table, the service was slow and the server seemed like she was just tired, overworked and had no charisma. My food was cold upon arriving to the table, it was extremely bland and greasy. It looked like it was cooked many times before. The steak had a very bad recognizable smell, as vinegar mixed with ammonia. The kind of smell that tells your brain don't eat me. I put the steak to the side and didn't eat it ,as getting sick was not my plan for dinner. My wife ordered a sancocho with beef rib and the sancocho was very cold and the rib was tough, raw and cold like it was added after the soup was cooked, I'm not talking cold like it was at room temperature, I'm saying cold as they took it out of the freezer and put it in there, the meat was actually bleeding everywhere that it contaminated everything else including the white rice. The server noticed this after having to wave at her 3 or 4 times as she kept looking away, she did removed it from the bill. The only thing that was fresh on my bandeja paisa was the fried egg, everything else was cold and stale and it was drenched in old oxidized oil, the fried items looked like it was fried many times and the fryer was on a very low temperature or the oil was so old that it turned into water, enough to allow the oil to get inside the meat and every other fried item. The server was slow and took around 30 minutes to just bring us the bill . I spent almost 2 hours in a visit that should have being approximately 45 minutes .The place appeared clean and the restroom was very clean. It must have being a bad day that I visited as the reviews don't reflect the service or quality this place delivered upon my visit, the place was not busy the night I visited. I was completely disappointed as most colombian places I have visited before ,have great food and service but not this one , the decor and music save this place from getting a one star rating.I really hope that they are able to do better as the decor for this place is beautiful and the potential is there as the area this restaurant is located had minimum competition for...
Read moreThis review is for Dulce Jesus Mio Ocala. We've been here 3 times now and I'm not sure it's worth going back. Each time the servers have been really friendly but English is not their first language so it was difficult ordering and getting questions answered. The appetizers aren't worth it as they are more like a tasting plate, without a lot of food and each time was just brought out with toothpicks, not flatware. The food is tasty and has a good portion size, no one left hungry, but other than the super paisa, I don't think 2 adults could split an entree. It seems that most of the entries on the menu are the same few ingredients just served slightly differently. For example, the differences in the cazuelas were one had beans while the other had blood sausage instead and there were like 3 others to choose from as well. Not bad but it would have been easier to have a base and then people could add the things they wanted rather it being (to us) a random assortment.
The steak was a bit on the chewy side and the blood sausage was very dry. The chorizo was my favorite but the corn cake may as well have been a coaster for all the texture and flavor it had. The steak entrees (as opposed to the ones mixed in with other ingredients) are served on a sizzling hot, cast iron plate and will continue to cook as you eat, so you'll probably want to order a lower temperature than normal as we got a medium steak that was well done by the halfway point.
Drinks are probably my biggest nit-pick. There's a full bar but when we asked for water, were only offered bottled (costing $2.50). There was no tea at all and soft drinks did not come with refills. I was surprised to get the bill and see each $2.50 drink charged separately. They also have Coke Zero but it's served by the can, not even out of their fountain. The sangria varies wildly, with the first time being probably the best around and this last time being more along the line of something you'd get from a grocery store.
Overall the atmosphere is nice, the staff is friendly and the food is pretty good. Though not everything is worth eating and drinks...
