Shocked at how discriminatory this organization runs. Apparently it's not enough to be gay to get help here. When I arrived I first had to fill out a form that forces you to self identify gender pronouns and race/ethnicity to "determine what aid is available." Dont expect any help if you are cis and white. My black friend recommended this place after he got a motel voucher for a month until they helped him get permanent housing, no questions asked. The girl at the front desk referred me to local shelters that are already overcrowded before sending me to a case worker who said there was no aid available for me. When I asked why my friend got aid so easily he simply said "I don't know what his story was." Why should something like that matter anyway? They pick and choose who they help based on gender identity and race so if you're white, you're out of luck.
UPDATE: Yeah that response from The Center is a lie. They are just covering their own bases to avoid any negative repercussions for being a racist company. I am telling you I was turned away without any help and it's because I am a white male. Doubling down on this because it is...
Read moreWhen my friend and I moved from Houston to Oceanside, we had no idea how much Nani, Lisa, Jerri, and Max were going to change our lives. Not only did they guide us through this difficult time of homelessness by giving us food, shelter, and a little bit of cash for my medication, laundry, and bus passes, they treated us with love and respect that I had never experienced in the fifteen years I lived Texas. If struggling with homelessness and mental illness has left you feeling as hopeless and lonely as I was, Nani is absolutely more than capable of using her many resources to support you and bring peace and joy into your life again. I thank everyone at North County LGBTQ Resource Center. Iâll always love them and will never forget their kindness. Makes me believe in there is hope for humanity, because I now believe there is...
