Read moreI just got word that Oceanside now has a new Peruvian restaurant and they just opened up today (October 27, 2024).
I spoke to the owners, and I admire their passion for bringing authentic Peruvian cuisine to North County. They originally started as a pop-up in San Marcos, and then branched into the city of Vista. Now Oceanside is the home for their first brick and mortar. Al Toque is located on Oceanside Boulevard, just east of Fraser Farms and west of Blackrock Café. They are in the Oceanside Square shopping center, that is home to Dunkin' Donuts.
The interior ambience is very simple and spacious and allows for plenty of family & group seating. Unfortunately, it lacks any romantic character or couples seating, which doesn't promote dining for two. Nonetheless, I believe this place will shine in our community, as it encourages more family dining opportunities.
For their first day, Service was very good, considering everyone was just learning and I can see the eagerness to please their customers.
I ordered a Lomo Salado with ribeye, a side of plantains and topped it with an egg. My meal was excellent and seasoned to perfection. I also loved that they poured the meat sauce over the rice to let it absorb the flavors.
I can also appreciate that they have a few cultural fruit drinks (including chicha-morada), beers on tap, and also a little selection of wine.
Overall, I really love Al Toque, and I believe that they will be a great asset in providing authentic Peruvian cuisine to Oceansiders that are closer to...
Read moreFirst of all this place is expensive. I emphasize that this isn’t a complaint in any way. Just letting you know you should expect a fairly high bill for two people. We paid $66 for two entrees and two sodas plus tax with a 15% tip.
I generally don’t dine out often due to the high costs. For such a premium you should also expect excellent service and very delicious food. And indeed you will get it. The food was amazing. Phenomenal, actually. It has been a long time I’ve been this happy at a restaurant. We had the Lomo Saltado (ribeye) and the Saltado de Mariscos (seafood) and boy were they yummy. The proteins were very high quality. The beef was very tender and cooked to perfection. The squid and shrimp were tender. The mussels were a tad dry but still very good. The service very friendly and professional. The servers were charming and personable.
We generally can’t afford eating out these days, but if you do, definitely give this place a visit, it’s well worth it. Thank you, Al Toque for such a great food and service. Couldn’t ask for more. I can’t wait to come back and try your other dishes (which will be hard because the Saltados dishes were just so damn good). I’m drooling just thinking about them again lol.
Ps. Fair warning for the frugal folk (I wish we didn’t have to be but times are tough) — be aware that the tip calculation on their payment calculator is based on the subtotal plus tax so ignore it and enter a tip amount that’s based only on...
