I made an appointment for gem identification on 24 March 2023 and had quite possibly the nicest and funnest experience ever. I had a handful of loose sapphires that I long questioned the authenticity of, and the certified GIA specialist I met with was just incredible. He was thorough, expedient and just wonderful to speak with. Such a wealth of knowledge! Of the five assumed sapphires I had, only two tested as such. He correctly identified the other three stones as synthetic visually, and confirmed that visual identity via formal testing afterwards. Now that is truly expertise.
After reading a review about someone feeling slighted by this business due to not being dressed to the 9s, I felt compelled to document my own experience. As an average 42 year old woman dressed for the weather (it was snowing heavily on the date of my appointment), I did not in any way feel judged or treated lesser by not being more attractively put together. Negative assumptions about a professional not paying you the idiosyncratic attention you feel you deserve in any given moment only serve to bolster an insecure ego.
This was my first interaction and appointment with the Utah Gem Gallery and I look forward to doing business with them again in the future. This is a five star locale and I highly recommend everyone to visit this location for all of their...
Read moreFor being the only gemologist in Northern Utah one would think the gemologist would have some kind of people skills. I stand corrected your right but I was talking about a gemologist but auto correct changed it to geologist I guess I should have proof read the post first.
Sir I have been in there personally dressed to the 9's with cash in hand to pay for the identifications, obviously coming in there looking like the common Joe does not cut it for you. My husband is a local cutter that does it by hand. I have brought several stones such as onyx, opal, sapherine and several other stones that we wanted identified. But you have insulted me and turned me away. The fact alone that could not place me as a customer says alot. I worked with Michael quite a bit one summer and was turnd away by him saying that you would not want to even look at some of the stones. We have sent our young nieces in there dressed to the nines and you are cordial with them. You did look at some of the stones if they were polished you will not look at all of them. Some stones are worth more raw. You are the only person in Northern Utah that has the equipment to do what we have wanted to be done, but you turned us away time after time. To the point we're we are going to pay for one of our nieces to go to college and become...
