I just called them to try to find a solution to the same problem everyone has with controllers over time. Stick drift. I have 6 controllers that are all inoperable at this point. Why do I have 6? Because somewhere in the matrix, people have decided it's cheaper to buy new controllers, vs the hassle of opening the controllers and repairing them and making a profit. The kits to repair one controller and two sticks when bought at wholesale run about 5 bucks. Assuming I'm looking up the right kits on Amazon, they come with high reviews and all about the same price. While on the phone, I'm talking through the cashier to the owner or technician. The cashier kept asking if I heard what he was saying. Like no. How about you stop talking and hand the phone to the person either running this establishment, or someone who can answer my questions. He asked me if it was one stick or both, cleaning or replacement? How should I know if it needs cleaned or replaced? If I was in the business of tearing one open and troubleshooting, I wouldn't be calling you. Logically, let's assume the most prudent thing to do is get in there and replace the components to both since I'm paying to have someone go in there in the first place and my controller is used. 25 to clean or 35 to replace one stick only. That's 70 bucks vs 75 for a new controller and the reason I have 6 controllers. How about you run a business and fix them 50 per controller? Instead, I'm talking through a cashier who knows nothing about what I'm talking about and tells me he is sorry he is just the cashier and can't answer tech questions.
This establishment was completely unprofessional and lacked any kind of customer service. I got treated as someone not worth the time to speak to, and for a service they offer, they didn't seem to want the business and tried to tell me I should buy more controllers because it would be easier for me. Easier for me? Or you don't want to offer the service because either inconvenient for you. Now, I'm going to order a soldering gun and some kits because I live in a world where logic is still logical. Thanks for absolutely nothing and for being rude.
‐---------‐--------- In response to your comment, thank you for taking the time to show everyone how professional you are. You gave an excuse for your lack of customer service. You took what your employee said as fact and truth without asking me. A professional person running a service based business to the public would've called to discuss the issue since you obviously had my number. You felt the need to ask me to not call as if that would ever be an option for me at this point, then continued to explain I was blocked as if I was harrassing the business and infact made a second communication beyond this review and comment response. That's real mature and professional. It's also quite extreme. Then you take little petty stabs at me saying I can watch videos on how to solder on youtube if I'd like. The fact that you would be unconscious to your own behavior is one thing, but your attempts at me prove how petty you really are despite some wholesome reviews of people that dont know you well enough. I'm well known in the area and easily recognized. I don't appreciate the defamation attempt on my character. I will be sure to go out of my way to let others know about your conduct, and if you any desire whatsoever to discuss with me in person, I'd be more than happy to come down there to you and talk...
Read moreVideo Games Plus was a great store when it opened. Now, it's barely above Vintage Stock or Gamestop.
When they opened a couple years ago, they paid 50 to 60 percent of market value on games and consoles they bought from customers. As of the past 6 months or so, they are now paying between 30 to 40 percent of market value, maximum. This is going by the commonly acceptable market values for games & consoles as determined by pricecharting.com and ebay sold listings. Even after paying ebay seller fees and shipping costs, you'll still earn significantly more selling on ebay. Offload your junk here, sure, but save anything worth $20 or more and sell it on ebay or fb marketplace.
VGP is also still charging a whopping 20-40 percent markup on all of their merchandise. I would not recommend buying here unless you are okay with overpaying for games and consoles. Don't take my word for it. Read their price tag on any item, then search that item on either pricecharting.com or search it on ebay sorted using 'buy it now' and 'price + shipping lowest' to see the actual value of that item. They also don't take condition into account, and will mark up poor condition games at the same price as a good condition copy should cost.
Another important thing to note is that they resurface all of the disc based games they stock in their main shelves. So if you don't want your games resurfaced (and potentially have data loss issues) your only option is to buy the expensive games behind the glass - which they don't resurface. Why? Because they know the risks that come with resurfacing, and don't want to damage the expensive games. But they are okay with selling potentially damaged cheaper games I guess.
Also, they DO NOT CLEAN CONSOLES THEY BUY BEFORE STOCKING AND SELLING THEM. This is a fact. I bought a 5th gen console from them that had literal dead bugs in it. I called and asked if they cleaned their consoles before stocking them and they said they didn't have time to open and clean them out. All they did was test them by playing games on them for a few minutes, then wrap and stock them (at a 20-40 percent markup of market value).
A few years ago, I would be raving about this store, recommending it to anyone with ears. Now, I warn people away.
I'll update this review if...
Read moreUpdate: just had to throw it out there again that these guys are the best in the area. I keep finding stuff here that I never see anywhere else, and it's priced competetively. And if you need help, they are ready and willing to do what they can. I'm so glad this place hasnt changed in that regard over the years. Only difference is that the collection here has grown. Absolutely love it!
This place is AMAZING!! These guys are true gamers with an impressive collection of quality classics, fix broken systems, give great gaming tips, and they care about their customers. We were talking about how hard it is to find the new gen systems and found out they actually find and resell new gen consoles at cost so regular customers can get them instead of scalpers! That is so nice!! Now I have a new xbox series x and IM SO...
