Desperately Needed in South OKC
My wife and I went on early Saturday evening after 5PM. It was opening day. We need a store like this between south OKC to Moore to Norman. I am thankful for that.
The Good: Bakery is wonderful, but sold out fast. Large variety of macaroons and delicious. Great selection of fresh vegetables, we found two varieties of bitter melon which made my wife ecstatic. Bokchoy, different types of squash (gourd), lots of green and red spinach, taro, casava, okra and different types of green beans which are an absolute joy, fresh turmeric, and even huge Jackfruit weighing over 30 lbs! There is a cold refrigerated section where there are cooked noodles packaged - all kinds chow mein noodles, flat, and rice noodles in all different sizes. I know I will be buying these often. The meat section had all kinds of beef and pork which would be appealing to people from Mexico and central America. There was chicken fajita meat which was not from chicken breast and has fat on it that gives a better taste when cooked like Mexican restaurants. The fresh fish was on ice and all kinds of wild caught fish on ice. From what I could see it was recently caught. There are also live fish and lobsters in aquariums.
The OK: The fruit seemed to be a bit on the expensive side, but we didn't get any; however, if they are fresh and sweet - the way many people like fruit then paying a bit more is fine. We found they had fresh young coconut in cases that seemed reasonably priced and individual ones too. They had kimchi, idli and dosa batter, ghee, paneer, packaged roti/phulki that was slightly higher priced, but at least they had it.
The Bad: Places around the meat section smelled fishy and chicken selection seemed limited. A very poor selection of Indian food ingredients. A complete lack of lentils, chickpeas and beans. The Basmati rice was priced too high - better prices at Sam's Club. A lack of dry Indian spices such as turmeric, coriander, whole/ground cumin, whole pieces of cinnamon, fenugreek, cardamon, clove, jaggery sugar (sugar from palm trees), black pepper, and red pepper. The small Indian food section about 3'x6' shelf area had bottled and packaged curry and korma sauces that you find in Walmart. They had some bread and sweet para (fried biscuits) - which nobody really wants. It was next to the Scottish and British food interestingly enough, but they didn't have UK staples of canned Heinz beans, Tetly or PG Tips tea, no McVitties biscuit varieties. No Cadbury chocolates. They vegetable section didn't have varieties of cauliflower and fresh fenugreek spinach. These are a staple of Indian cooking. They had limited amounts of fresh cut packaged vegetables. I was hoping to find more fresh veggies already chopped so I can pick these up to cook on the go. The deli was horrible - nobody was buying anything at that time. I was hoping for fresh spring rolls, egg rolls, quick stir fry vegetables, but no luck. Didn't see Vietnamese Pho in the deli, perhaps I missed it.
I think the owners need to visit ethnic food stores in town and probably nearby in Dallas to see what sells not only to ethnic groups, but what also sells to ordinary Americans who like to cook. There is great potential here, but I also see nearby Hong Kong Market on 89th and Penn losing sales. I wish the owners the best of luck and would be happy to talk to them to give them some ideas. I will definitely be coming back often and give them more stars as...
Read moreMy go-to international market now. Very well organized and spacious inside, with well labeled sections. Always able the find the stuff I need for making pho, and their instant noodle selection is massive! The Japanese section has a nice selection of products, including a small variety of curry mixes to pick from, as well as seasonings, sushi ingredients, etc. Produce is always jammed packed and everything has looked to be fresh. The frozen section is also large, with a huge variety. They've even got a section with European goods, separated out by country, though most of that will be snacks and treats, canned goods, and things like premade sauces and condiments.
The small bakery and drink shop inside is also great, we've frequently picked up macaroons, and even shared a slice of cake. There's also a small anime/pop culture shop in the corner, though it mostly has stationary and K and J-pop band goods. The kitchen and home goods section is also quite large. I've been very happy with the utensils and cookware I've purchased there, especially the big fine mesh strainer I got for straining stock with.
I haven't purchased anything from the fish market, so I can't say whether it's good or bad. I haven't ever noticed a lot of odor when near it. It usually seems like a busy area though. The meat I've gotten there a few times has been fine, though I've never gotten anything from the counter or dealt with the employees.
Definitely recommend! Always fun to browse, and they'll probably have...
Read moreIf you haven't experienced the crab station here you have no idea what your taste buds are missing out on.. shame on you for depriving them of an amazing experience. I have had the pleasure of 3 separate occasions without being disappointed. My family will denounce any other crab place for this one. Huge shrimp and delicious snow crab.. you can not go wrong. They even forgot to give me a sausage once as ordered but i just couldn't be mad because the crab is exceptional. The cool dude behind the counter didn't believe they should open their own boiled crab restaurant as i have tried to tell him. Maybe he will get it one day and if so other crab places are in trouble. And did i tell you about the Pho.. i have not had a pho broth like this one. I didn't add anything to the broth and when i did i was actually a little disappointed that i messed it up. We also love Pho in my family and their noodles are just as good as the dang crab. One stop place for your dinner ready to eat.. with hugh bone in beef thrown into your pho noodles. Amazing flavors that also deserve a restaurant. Maybe they will acquire the whole shopping suite and turn the strip into world fresh restaurant.. 🤔🤔🤔.. i would invest.. buy stocks.. take up a part time there to get free meals
If you have not had the opportunity to check this place out please stop by.. you will be in shock that nobody told you about this place. So here i am telling you about this place.. and there is...
