My husband and I have lived at the Nieuw Amsterdam Village (NAV) complex for almost 10 years. We loved our initial experience as the team including Sandy was very pleasant when we inquired about renting an apartment. However, we were unable to view the apartment we were moving into because it was occupied at the time. Presently, I believe the apartment complex has a model rental apartment for future tenants to view which is appreciated.
I have mixed feelings about my time at the NAV complex. I would on occasion have to call the rental office multiple times to check if my maintenance request was submitted or even placed in the system. Also, at times (in Sandy’s absence) I received the wrong information from staff in the rental office.
The maintenance team does respond quickly to all requests and successfully addresses the maintenance issue most times. On several occasions, I had to place multiple maintenance requests for the same issue that was supposedly fixed or escalate some issues in order for them to be addressed.
My stove top was not working well a few years back and after the maintenance team tried to fix it on several occasions, the complex finally approved for me to get a new stovetop/ oven. However, the quality of our new oven is not comparable to the one we previously had. It is much cheaper in quality. I don’t know if this was to cut costs, but I am not a fan of the replacement.
If you have a more extensive maintenance issue I find that the maintenance workers can be quite messy. I experienced this several times after they have done work in my current apartment. I had to clean up after them.
The complex at times has community events, which are nice - they may rent a food truck and provide light meals as a thank you to residents which is a nice touch. I wish these events were scheduled more frequently.
Also, initially the complex did 2-year leases but now they only offer 1-year leases which I am not a fan of. On the other hand, there increases in rent are minimal which is a plus. Lastly, there is a ton of parking and as a Native New Yorker I do not take this...

Roach issue Bee's Spider Issue My bathroom flooded and the reason they gave is that they are working on plumbing issue in the next door apartment Cats running around outside Heating issue Water shuts down every 2 weeks for 4-5 hours The worst they have laundry rooms but they never open on time, when you ask them to, they simply say we are working on other issues and we will open it when we can.
Extremely rude and disrespectful staff including the manager Bill. You don’t believe me, contact me, I got pictures and videos to prove it all. I would really encourage people to do the due dillegence and speak with other residents before moving in to this place. It's your life and your hard earned money and these people take it all for granted.

Aman
P.S - All these issues took place in the matter...
Read moreI lived here for two years and had a great experience. The leasing office was always very attentive and friendly. The maintenance staff was great as well - the few times I did have issues with anything in my apartment they were always on top of it. I really appreciated how they could work and do inspections etc. when I wasn't home also. Apartments are nice and updated as well. The only thing I really had an issue with was controlling the temperature in the colder months because I didn't really have control over the heat. Not sure if every unit is like that though.
There are cheaper places to rent at but here there is a great staff, the apartments are nice, and the residents are generally quite friendly and quiet. I would definitely recommend...
