Powerhouse Gym — Local services in Old Bridge Township

Update 2: I wanted to do a quick but much deserved update. The owner has really been doing a lot to improve the gym. Adding new equipment. Improving the organization of where equipment is in the gym, and most importantly you walk into the gym and feel the air from the air conditioning. The staff continues to be welcoming. Special shout out to the morning staff.

Update: Now that I’ve been a member at the gym for a number of months, I wanted to just update my review accordingly. The biggest point for me is the ventilation in the gym. The thermostat being on 72 when the gym is packed and it’s getting to be warmer out. Really makes it difficult to breathe or get any sort of brisk air. Maybe it’s not that kind of gym since a lot of people are body builders but it would certainly help. Also, depending who is in charge of the front desk the doors may or may not be opened for extra air and the fans may or may not be on. At the end of the day just makes cardio and working out a little more difficult. It’s challenging because my trainer is amazing and it’s my main reason for being there.

——————— I started here back in August. I joined with a trainer that moved there from another gym. Everyone is super friendly, accommodating in their hours of operation, reasonable membership options and tons of equipment. While my trainer moved on from here, it was through this gym I was able to find a new trainer who was also able to get me on point with my nutrition.

I’m excited to continue my 2025 fitness journey here and to see what their new class schedule is as well. Hoping for additional yoga classes to add to my weekly routine that accommodate those of us with 9-5 work...

TLDR: Long contracts, always busy, wasted space with a basketball court, HIGH fees, not worth the money, unprofessional, Great and nice staff

Out of all the gyms I've been too, this is arguably one of the worst. My contract was signed in 2016 and 3years was the only term of time. Its 2021 and I'm still paying for it.... When I signed up I made sure to get in writing and affirmation that if I move away for school I could cancel it. The guy who signed my contract has since been fired due to a multiple number of reasons. I had to delay payments and freeze them because the fraudulent employee lied to me and I couldn't afford to pay $30 a month while 376 miles away at school on top of everything else.

The membership prices are crazy considering they charge a Bi-annual maintenance fee for equipment, etc and yet there was a solid 6 months where equipment was broken, missing, or "under repair" so remind me why I am paying for my membership fees and extras if that place isn't a well oiled machine.

Why am I still here? Aside from my contract, there really aren't any other gyms aside from Planet fitness and you take what you can get. I train full time at Jersey Shore Fitness Shop in Bradley Beach while I live in S. Amboy. Powerhouse is strictly for cardio.

No slight on the employees but its definitely evident that this gym was kinda of like "we'll figure it out as we go"...

This gym is the best in the area which says a lot when you have great gyms all over NJ. I have to wonder about some of the posts that have been written If they were written about the old Powerhouse in Morganville bc that is not the same gym. Some of the staff mentioned and things mentioned do not add up. The gym is far from small, it's very large, bright, clean and has so many amentities. NYSC is a gym in the area that is small and dark and the weights were missing or machines were broken for extended periods of time. I have never experienced that here. I've never had any issues with the staff. It's open 24 hours most days and great for those who need flexible gym hours. Even on holiday weekends they do not close early unless it is an actually holiday to which they are still open longer than most gyms. Free Daycare to Members / Tanning facility / Classes offered basketball court , saunas PLENTY of Cardio Equipment so NO WAITING for cardio machines and there are 4 StepMills as well as cardio equipment that isn't offered at other gyms.
