Hansons Hometown Hardware — Local services in Old Orchard Beach

Our washer is not working. I've dealt with this issue before, and I need to take the front panel off. I couldn't find the nut driver I needed in the size I needed so I went down to this store.

I walk in and head towards the big signs that says Tools, because there are like five aisles in the store I assume what I'm looking for is going to be over there. The men at the front say good morning and ask me if I know what I'm looking for. I said good morning back and said yes and headed towards my aisle.

One of them says, "oh she knows where she's going she doesn't know what she's doing."

I find what I'm looking for and come up front and ask the man who said I didn't know what I was doing? He stammered, said no one said that. So I asked again, he puffs out a bit more and said "well I didn't say that" and turns to the other man and asks if he said such a thing, and the guys laughs and says "you sure did". Then the first man asks me if I knew what I had wasn't a screwdriver. I'm well aware at what I am buying is NOT a screwdriver. He asked me what I'm doing and I told him I need to take off the front panel of the washer and clear a clog. The second man asks, "all by yourself? Well, good for you."

I'm not really sure what provoked this kind of rudeness, I can only assume it's because I am a woman and cannot comprehend how to work tools. Next time, I'll drive to a big box store where I'm treated like a competent human being and skip shopping local. This was on April...

I ran into a plumbing issue today which required me to make an emergency run to the hardware store. Try getting a plumber to come out on a Friday even at 5PM on new years weekend. I spoke to the young man who was working and asked if he knew anything about plumbing. He said he did and not only did he help me pick out different items so I could have options in the event something didn’t work, but he gave me pointers which were spot on. The man at front desk was aloof when I asked him a question. When I asked clarifying questions, he seemed to get impatient and communicated in a disrespectful manner including the use of facial gestures.

Ace Hardware is only 2 miles further from my home, so I will patron that store instead. His demeanor was similar to another unfavorable review below.
