Online ordered a selection of cookies and arranged for local pickup. Met with David, a very warm and friendly guy. On to the cookies.
I shared the cookies with a friend, without telling him much beyond "made in a home kitchen" to not bias his opinion much.
In general, all of the primary cookies seem to share recipe similarities, with the key differences being the secondary ingredients to give them flavor. Despite the differences all the cookies seemed to be on the "cakey" side of the cookie spectrum instead of gooey or firm. Cookies are also a very good size, easier to portion control. Would be great if it was possible to estimate the nutrition information, for people who are conscious of calorie intake who still want an occasional treat.
Peanut - both our favorites. I guess we like nuts. Well balanced peanut flavor without being too sweet.
Gingersnap - my second favorite, his third. My buddy's not a big ginger fan, but greatly appreciated the balance and really enjoyed them. Personally I would have preferred a bit more ginger bite, but the flavor was still there.
Snickerdoodle - His second favorite, my third. He would. have preferred just a tad less cinnamon, while I think it was just about right, maybe even wishing a pinch more.
Chocolate chip - He felt that the cookies could possibly use a pinch more salt, and since he likes making his own choc chip cookies, everything else takes second place. For me, my own bias has to do with being a serious chocolate connoisseur, so to me the chips didn't add much to the cookie.
Just goes to show that opinions can be very different, but frankly none of the cookies would be considered "bad" or even "mediocre," but if you have to rank them, that's how they fell for us. There's a reason why chocolate chip is one of the most popular style of cookies, but we ranked them last for our own personal reasons.
I did get an order of pink heart cookies as well. David stated that he was not happy that they were a little blotchy in color, but I actually like it this way! I think it adds a bit of personality to the cookie, if it was a pure consistently pink color I would actually feel like it was artificial rather than hand made. Very reminiscent of shortbread cookies.
Overall I will say that the cookies were very fresh tasting, and not just because they are less than 24 hours old. But more like, they don't have an artificial flavor about them that feels like you're just eating preservatives. They taste like real food made by a real person. (Well, except for the chocolate chip, but again that's a "me" issue and not a cookie issue). Balance is very important to me and these definitely met my expectations very well.
Would I buy these again? Yes, absolutely. Maybe try a couple of different ones as well. It's not often I make an effort to buy sweet baked goods as I'm prone to overeating sweet snacks like this, but I am certain to order again if/when the...
