I cannot begin to overstate how amazing my experience with this retailer was. I go into great detail below, but if you're looking for a TL;DR and deciding between on online purchase or a brick and mortar purchase.. save yourself the stress and headache and make an appointment at Diamond Designs. They did not try to up-sell me at any point, you will receive outstanding customer service, and a perfect finished product.
I spent a solid week researching the varying factors that determine a diamonds value and looks. Another week or so picking out my ideal diamond (fitting my budget without costing quality). Being in my late 20's, the idea of buying something in a brick and mortar shop is practically foreign. It's easy to overlook the potential for lack in quality when the price-tag is, supposedly, so much cheaper! Thus, a day or two was spent sifting through reviews of online retailers to determine where I'd be buying this huge purchase - in the day and age of frequent fraudulent, sometimes purchased, reviews.
All of that legwork, to receive an e-mail 48 hours before my proposal date) from the online vendor stating that my shipment would be delayed, and will now arrive a week after my proposal weekend date.
48 hours before I was planning on proposing to my girlfriend I began a frantic search for local, brick and mortar. Based on a quick glance at their online reviews, I called up Diamond Designs stating simply "I purchased a ring online, it is not arriving in time. I need a ring by this weekend." I was not very hopeful, if I'm being honest. In my mind I was already prepping myself for the possibility that I would have to rethink my entire proposal plans.
The manager of Diamond Designs, Deepak Dadlani, asked "Can you text me the details of the online order you made, including diamond and band specifications?" I texted him those details, including the GIA cert for the diamond I had chosen, around 12pm. By 12:41PM I received a text for Deepak informing me that he had some options to show me.
I was beginning to get a bit hopeful at this point, but the realist in me was thinking I'd have to settle for a different band, or a different diamond.
When I arrived at Diamond Designs at 1:30PM that day, Deepak greeted me with a plethora of items. He had picked out similar bands that he had physically in the store. He had pulled out a band catalog, earmarked to a specific band style very similar to what I had ordered online. He also had a GIA cert for a similar diamond to what I had spent weeks finding online. The most impressive part was that he had contacted his vendors to confirm that these options would be on hold for me, and available for overnight shipping to arrive the next day.
Let me reiterate... I had called up Diamond Designs on a Thursday morning in a panic, as my previous weeks in the making online order fell through. I gave Deepak Dadlani (D) the online retailer order information and within FORTY MINUTES of calling him he had around five different options ready for me to look over, all very comparable to my original online order- including budget!!- and all (potentially) available within a 24 hour period.
We spent a good hour comparing real diamonds in store, something I was not able to do online. This gave me greater confidence in my choice, and I was able to make a purchase on a band, diamond. D told me they would try their best to have it assembled the next day, Friday.
About 14 hours after making that purchase, on Friday morning, I received a text from D stating that all the parts had arrived, and they would begin assembly immediately. Throughout the day I received updates directly from D, until 4:30pm I received a text that the ring was ready for pickup.
The ring was exactly what I had originally wanted, and honestly I am not sure my online purchase would have been as good as what I received from Diamond Designs.
My now fiance loves her rock, and I have to give a huge majority of the credit to Deepak Dadlani and...

I recently purchased a diamond engagement ring from Diamond Designs, and the experience was beyond excellent from start to finish. I visited/checked out several jewelers running the gamut from online to chain to local shop. The owner at Diamond Designs, Dee, was incredible and took the time to give me a lesson in diamonds that was far beyond what any other jewelers even began to offer.
I researched a lot beforehand, but after looking at a few diamonds by eye and with Dee's jeweler's loup and guidance, I realized the online comparisons I checked out couldn't compare to seeing a diamond in front of you.
Seriously, do it in person with a trustworthy expert, you won't regret it. Online is NOT real life. Some diamonds that seemed perfect online had noticeable flaws, but others that seemed imperfect looked amazing in person.
Dee helped me find the perfect stone, and asked the right questions and took the time to find the perfect band. I had a pretty specific budget but i stayed within it and my new fiancee keeps telling me how her diamond looks clearer and catches the light better than all of her friends. I know what some of them paid, and in a lot of cases it was WAY more than Diamond Designs based on the diamonds I viewed.
Now I'm giving a 5* rating, but I actually had a problem--the kind of problem that Diamond Designs fixed so thoroughly and so fast that I'd give 6 or 7 or 10 stars if I could. The manufacturer sent the wrong band to Diamond Designs and it could have delayed my proposal, but Dee rushed into action and got the right setting and placed the diamond super fast. I got a bunch of her family in from out of state as a surprise for the engagement and Dee rushed to make it happen just in time.
Dee didn't just get the ring right, he literally made my perfect proposal happen. If he hadn't gotten the ring perfect and been so fast and responsive to fix the manufacturer error, I would have had over a dozen of my fiancee's relatives sitting around wondering why I had an empty box.
I cannot recommend Dee and Diamond Designs highly enough. I know I'll be back there soon for wedding bands. If you're like me and you spent a ton of time talking to friends hoping for a magical connection who could tell you how to find the right diamond, or you think you'll find the perfect stone online, do yourself a favor and stop into Diamond Designs. You'll get an actual education and not an online sales pitch, and beyond that you'll find some of the best customer care I've ever seen, plus an actual partner in one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make. It's worth it for your time, and based on my experience, it's worth it for...
Read moreI had two really wonderful experiences at Diamond Designs. I first stumbled upon the shop when I was visiting family in Connecticut and needed to get my engagement ring appraised. The gentleman who took care of the appraisal was fast and kind. I instantly felt I was in great hands.
My engagement ring was a family heirloom and the band set the diamond high above my finger, which is impractical for my active lifestyle. After having such a great experience with the appraisal, I decided to email the shop to see if they could reset my stone. This service is actually hard to find in NYC (where I live) and extremely expensive but Dee was very responsive and fast to offer many affordable options.
Wedding planning and being based in NYC made it difficult to get to the shop with my fiancé but when I was back in town for a family party, I decided to swing by. I was immediately set at ease to leave my ring and get it reset the way that is best for my life and style.
It only took them a week and a half to finish! I am so in love with it! Go here now for any high end...
