I know there's no way to properly describe my gratitude for having April Dawn as a part of my birth experience. As a first time momma, I knew that I wanted a doula that could provide both emotional and physical support through my labor and delivery, but I also desperately wanted a doula that would provide information about the whole process. April gave my husband and I all of the above, and so much more. Through a series of afternoon sessions at our home, April and my husband and I walked through every part of the birth process, discussing our options, our choices, nutrition, and decisions we'd need to make for ourselves and for our baby. Through all of this, April never pushed us in any one direction regarding our birth plan or our decisions regarding our baby. She was a fount of valuable information, from the type of exercises one can do to prepare for labor, through the shots/treatments that will be administered to baby in the hospital.
April provided delicious and healthy treats and hydrating beverages and encouraged clean, targeted eating to prepare my body for childbirth. She gave us worksheets, watched videos with us, and made sure that we knew what we were heading into. My pregnancy had complications in the weeks before I ultimately had a c-section, and April always made time to talk to me and go through options with a clear head and her oodles of experience. She was a rock for both my husband and I on the day of delivery, and when I had struggles with breastfeeding, she was there as a support in the days after. I am so grateful that April was a part of our birth experience, because she allowed us to relax and revel in the anticipation of our baby's arrival. April is a true gem, and I'll always think of her fondly whenever I think of my baby's birth. In that way, she'll always be a part of our family - thank...
Read moreApril is amazing! She was such a key part of our birth team and I couldn’t imagine having to have to bring our little girl earth side without her!
Our pregnancy seemed like it was going to throw EVERY curve ball at us and every single time I had even a small concern or worry or even mom guilt for things out of my control with my pregnancy; April met me with information and comfort that made a huge difference in my stress levels.
She not only educated myself but also my husband who was very nervous about labor and delivery and also fatherhood, she made sure to include both of us in the education so not only I felt prepared but so did he.
As a first time mom I was constantly thinking “oh now might be it” when I’d have contractions for an hour most of the time they went away though. But she never made me feel silly! The day of I called her and she headed my way and let me tell you she was everything we needed that day she allowed space for my husband to support me but also helped me to work through labor in the most peaceful and loving manner.
She helped me accomplish our goal of having a completely natural and unmedicated birth but then not only made sure our wants were taken care of but managed to get some of our most meaningful photos.
The mothered momma doula is a very fitting name because she make sure feel like you are absolutely being surrounded by loving motherly energy the whole time!
Anyone who is lucky enough to have April on their birth team will be taken care of emotionally, educationally, physically.
My family will always be greatful to April for everything...
Read moreWhere to begin... We partnered/became obsessed with April in 2018 when we were pregnant with our baby girl. I tend to have some controlling tendencies, so I knew I needed a doula who could prepare me. Lesson 1) you can't control labor. But you can be prepared and educated! April is physically tiny, but her personality and passion is that of a giant. She'll educate any new time parents about the process of pregnancy and labor, the importance of diet/nutrition, and be a great advocate on the day. I would say, like most doulas April is an advocate of natural labors but will not shame any mommy who wants meds. After 15 hours in labor, i needed pain relief and April completely supported my choice. After another 15 hours, it was time to push and Tiny April was the 2nd rockstar in that room. Even the nurses were impressed by her techniques! My Husband was very thankful to have her from the very beginning, and be part of our new story as a...
