I was shocked at how poorly I was treated, from the moment I walked in. The person behind the counter looked at me with such inadequately concealed condescension. I was so confused. I asked if they were still buying for the day. I left my basket in my car because I didnât want to lug it all the way in if they had reached their buying limit for the day. She said yes, but that they only take womenâs clothes. I was again, confused, and said, I have womenâs clothesâŚ..She asked me what brands. I said, off the top of my head, Express, Anne Klein, Vince Camuto, BCBG, Abercrombie and FitchâŚto which I was cut off and told that I would probably be better off at Platoâs Closet next door, because they only take womenâs clothes. Theyâre looking for (she listed a bunch of brands, all I remember is Madewell)âŚ.I said again, yes, I understand. Theyâre all womenâs clothes from name brands. None of them are juniors. She sighed, rolled her eyes, and said fine Iâll take a look at themâŚâŚ
As I walk back out to my car to grab my basket, I thought, did I do something wrong? Iâve never been treated this way before or felt so unwelcome. Am I not your target demographic? Iâm a woman in my 30s. Iâm wearing Paige jeans, Ugg boots, and a Lululemon jacketâŚ..
Long story short, they didnât want to buy anything because nothing of mine would sell there. Thatâs fine. But then she told me again that Iâd probably have better luck at Platoâs closet. I donât know why this needs to be explained, but there is a nice way to tell someone âNo, thank youâ. Repeatedly telling me to go take my things to a store for teenagers isnât it. And for purposes of clarity, the tone of the âGo to Platoâs Closetâ statement wasnât one of kindness. It was âyou donât belong hereâ. Which is just beyond me, because intermixed with their Madewells and other brands named, were Shein, Time and Tru (Walmart), Wild Fable (Target), and other not brand name pieces. Donât get me wrong, Iâm not above shopping at Target, but donât feign exclusivity and then patronize your customers.
For the record, everyone else I interacted with at the store was lovely. And they did have some nice pieces that I would have loved to buy. But my money wasnât good enough.
One person can make all...
Read moreI rarely give reviews in general, but the encounter I had here warrants one. Came in with a lot of clothes i was looking to sell (pretty & soft sweaters, jeans, calvin klein dress that was 1.5 years old that retails for $100) among other clothing items. The first person i see when I come in was either the owner of the place or the manager who has a very unpleasant expression on her face (Iâve gone here multiple times, and she always has the same unpleasant facial expression). The woman who helped me at the front desk was nice, although the woman who seemed in charge with the nasty expression on her face was rushing her to get me signed in. They told me it would be an hour wait, I said that was fine. I looked around, bought an item and then decided to wait while they looked at my stuff because I had my baby with me and didnât want to drive around for an hour wasting gas and go through the process of putting her back in and out of the car more than i had to, and it was cold out. I took a seat with my baby (who was not making a peep, by the way) and overheard the manager/owner asking one of the employees about âthe woman with the babyâŚâ and then shortly thereafter she tells me they canât buy any of my items. When i asked her what clothes i should bring in next time that they might actually purchase, she gave me the generic âoh we look for clothes that are 1-4 years old and then we just learn and know what will sell at our store and what wonâtâ. Now to her credit, she did help me load my clothes into my car, but Iâm pretty sure they didnât even look at my items and just said they couldnât buy any of them because they didnât like that i had brought my baby into the store and felt that she might start crying and disrupt customers (which she only did briefly for about 30 seconds as i loaded her into her carseat at the very end). The dress, as beautiful as it is, may not have sold quickly because it was winter time, and i get that, but the sweaters, jeans, vests, etc were all very nice with very minimal wear and were all winter attire. And almost every piece was less than 4 years old, the dress being 1.5 years old. The employees seemed nice, the owner or manager i encountered...
Read moreThis is one of the most ageist places I have ever been to, and based on the reviews, I am not the only one who thinks so. I am not mad if my clothes are not taken, in fact I have sold a good amount of clothes here, usually my moms that she is getting rid of, but I don't think this store understands that Millennials are now all adults and have different style, and are also huge spenders when it comes to resale. I have actually had other women come up and offer to buy rejected clothes in the parking lot after I leave. This last time I had a ton of NWT Abercrombie and like new fall vegan leather pants that were never worn and retail for 150 - 250, all were rejected. Meanwhile Abercrombie is one of the most sought after resale brands on mercari, thredup, poshmark, etc. I highly recommend doing more research on emerging trends if you want to be sustainable to new customers who are outgrowing platos closet, which you seem to have so much disdain for. Instead, you use it to insult others when you should recognize the prime opportunity to bring in new customers who are aging up and out of teens and early 20s fashion.
As others have mentioned, the manager is very rude. I have noticed if I go in to sell in sweats and lounge wear, you are profiled and told to go to platos closet, so I had to get in the habit of dressing up just to go in this store. Every other time I go in I am bombarded without provocation by which brands they take etc. etc. without me even saying a word.
The other employees are actually very nice, and whenever I do go in I try to make a point to avoid the manager and only interact with them for my own sanity. Honestly someone needs to start a new store for working adults that actually understand style and taste change with each generation.
To the manager, I see that you feel the need to respond and justify your actions whenever someone writes a bad review. Please do not feel the need to do this here, I am done coming in, and would rather send my clothes off to Thredup, or donate my clothes to women's shelters, than endure being made to feel less than...
