American Cancer Society Discovery Shop - Pacific Grove, CA — Local services in Pacific Grove

While in the area, I visited some thrift stores, with this being one one. It was by far the worst one in the area, hands down. With it being associated with the National Cancer Society, I definitely had higher expectations. After all, this is truly an amazing organization that helps so many ❤️ Unfortunately, I find it hard to believe this store is capable of helping many with the way the store is run and set up. Where to even start! The clothing racks are so unbelievably unorganized. Nothing is in the right area. Whoever decided on how to set up this store obviously has put much thought into it. Clothing of all sizes is everywhere except where it should be. Clothing hanging off hangers, no sizes is appropriate area, and so on. While there was no one staff/volunteer was doing anything but following around a woman trying on clothes, telling her how gorgeous she looked and about her "discount" The whole time I wondered around aimless trying to make sense of what a horrific setup hiding behind a good cause. The area that claimed to have "designer" brands was a joke. Most of the items displayed were popular brands somewhere in time but certainly shouldn't have been classified as such now. These items classified as the "designer" brands and most other things one would possibly consider had stains, excessive piling with most having atleast one major flaw but that didn't stop them from price gouging. I'm all about over paying for a cause but I would like to atleast be able to use the item in one way or form. Item flaws were beyond repairable or wearable. Brands and items that could be considered higher end or valueable were marked low. This store needs a complete overhaul of who's running the show. While it may be a tax write-off to some, it's an organization that is important to many. As many places in CA, the reviews are high, but the service, item quality, and everything else is a complete disaster. Absolutely a truly sad situation for those who rely on...

This used to be my favorite thrift/charity store. Within the past few months, prices are much higher as they list items based on online comparison. Online prices are way overblown and 90% never sell for that higher price. When shops do this on donated goods, it's a complete turn off. You make more money selling at affordable prices, move inventory much faster and get steady clientele. Yes, you're donating for a good cause, but you're losing customers and even on the sale days or half off days, it's still too much.

I used to love this store but just recently and purchased a good amount of pieces. When it was time to ring me up the two older men jockeys about “charging” me for the paper they were wrapping the items in.

The most recent visit one of the same old man kept staring at me as I shopped around. It got so weird I confronted him. He was then annoyed when I wanted to set my items up front while I keep looking.

Because I am a Hispanic woman I felt he was racially profiling me because I didn’t look like a woman who had money.
