Food Lion — Local services in Painttown Community

My wife placed an online order through instacart to be picked up at the store. We weren’t able to pick it up that day. I went into the store the next morning to explain what happened and get our groceries, assuming they hadn’t been put away. I began the whole interaction by apologizing for missing the pickup window the day before. We do online orders there all the time and we’ve never missed a pickup window, so I didn’t know the procedure for these situations.

A manager named Mercedes came out and told me that my order was ready for pickup, but I needed to show her some sort of confirmation before she’d give it to me. The only documentation I had was a receipt showing proof of purchase from instacart. For whatever reason, that wasn’t sufficient. She never actually made clear what it was that she needed. I thought she said she needed to see proof that the order had been picked up, but that wouldn’t make any sense considering that the order was still in the back of the store.

In either case, I told her I’d work out a refund with instacart since I didn’t have what she needed. I got the impression she thought I was a thief and told her so. I made an honest effort before I left to make it clear I wasn’t a grifter and make things copacetic before I left.

She never made any attempt to assure me that she didn’t think I was a thief. She kept telling me I was giving her attitude and that’s as far as I got. The interaction was so unpleasant that I won’t return. I’d rather drive 40 minutes to the Walmart in Sylva than shop at my neighborhood...

Nasty deli with awful service! Don’t waste your time! We went into Food Lion to get a sub made (which we found out later that they don’t do), and there was pre-made sandwiches, meat and cheese left out on the counter with flies all over them. The meat was dried out like it had been sitting there for hours! Gross! We stood there waiting on service for what felt like forever and neither of the two ladies working would even look up to acknowledge we were there. A group of customers came up after us and one of the ladies started chit chatting with them as if they knew each other but continued to ignore us. I finalled yelled “is anyone working here? Can we have a sandwich made?” And that’s when the rude lady in the back yelled back “we don’t make sandwiches here!”, and then stuck her nose back into her work and went back to ignoring us. We will be living 10 minutes down the road for the next 4 months but I can promise that we won’t step foot in there...

This Food Lion store is the major grocery store in Cherokee NC. This store does an exceptional job in providing plentiful food for our whole communities. During snow storms, icy roads and other major weather conditions, Food Lion remains open, putting our communities families needs first, making sure everyone has food & water. During the winter months, our local Food Lion donates food boxes to all of our Elders & handicapped people. The employees are all so very kind & helpful. The store is always very clean & the meats & fruit & vegetables are always fresh. The store does offer frozen seafood & on occasion, fresh seafood. There is a deli/bakery in-store and also a Western Union Station available at the Customer Service counter. The store itself is located in a small shopping center which offers several restaurants, a Family Dollar store, Rack Room Shoes store and also a Dentists office.
