Winn-Dixie is known for its private label Chek brand soft drinks, which are produced in over 20 different flavors plus diet and caffeine-free varieties—one of the widest assortments. It has been known as "The Beef People" throughout its lifetime. The checkmark in the company's logo comes from Kwik Chek, another store the company owned.[3]
In its advertising and print media, Winn-Dixie used slogans such as "We're Right For You" starting in 1982, "America's Supermarket" from 1985 until 2001, "The Real Deal" from 2001 to 2004, and since 2018, "It's a Winn Win!" Winn-Dixie has also been known for its use of the brand promises of "Fresh Checked Every Day" for its Jacksonville, Florida locations, "Getting Better All The Time" in its locations in Central Florida, "El Sabor De Tu País", or "The Flavor Of Your Country", in its Miami area stores, and "Local Flavor Since 1956" in its Louisiana area stores.
Winn-Dixie was listed in the S&P 500 and had been traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "WIN" since February 18, 1952,[3] prior to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005. The company was then traded under the symbol "WINN" on the NASDAQ before its purchase in 2012.
Winn-Dixie was built up by William Milton Davis and his sons Artemus Darius Davis, James Elsworth Davis, Milton Austin Davis and Tine Wayne Davis. William Davis started in business in Burley, Idaho, where he bought a general store in 1914 that he later renamed Davis Mercantile. As was common then, he sold most goods on credit. The advent of cash-only grocery stores in the 1920s hurt Davis's business as the new stores offered lower prices and...
Read moreSalad bar had only blue cheese as a dressing option, prices were much higher then my normal stores I shop in ( Aldi, DG, Thrifty Meat and Produce) and the produce was awful! The corn was teeny tiny and very dried out looking and missing most of the kernels on top. I get that that's maybe what the only thing that they got shipped and they can't control the quality of corn but why would you even bother putting it out...like the salad kits in the bags with the dressing in it , the salad was soggy and brown... I just rather it not even be there. The store was the cleanest winn-Dixie I've ever been in and the setup was nice, but quality to price was definitely an issue. I actually decided mid way through shopping to abandon my cart in the store and drive across town to a grocery store that was more reliable. Side note, what the hell is with the buy 2 get one free?! That's not even a good deal! I rather a few bogos to a bunch of something I am forced to buy 3 of. Feeling obligated to buy two of something is already a pain sometimes and you're getting one of the items free. Asking me to buy two of them and then forcing another one upon me seems a bit ridiculous especially when it was on giant gallon sizes of vegetable oil. What could I possibly do with that. If you just had one thing that was a good deal at buy-one-get-one I would be way more apt...
Read moreI rarely shop at Winn-Dixie because I feel their prices are way too high for the products they offer. We we're getting pizza from Little Ceasar's and needed a few grocery items and didn't want to run to Wal-Mart so we grabbed them here. The same items I get from Wal-Mart are $0.42 were I paid $0.69 here, and the selection was limited. It isn't just one or 2 items priced higher, it's all items. Sure, when they have the BOGO deals you might save some money, but it's not a big enough savings to have to keep an eye on their fliers and deals and only buy things when they want to offer a deal. I get the majority of my groceries from Aldi, and my brand name items are split between Wal-Mart and BJ'S, and I know I am saving money and can buy the items when I need or want them and without having to go grocery shopping every week based on the...
