Well...what can be said about good old Jackie Robinson Park😏 You know?...It is a great park. The playground is closed due to COVID-19; however, there are still people who run the track and practice on the field. The elephant in the room is that its in the hood ya'll. Rrrrat tah tah tah! But I have never felt unsafe nor experienced any unpleasantries, and I visit nearly once a week for the past year now. The basketball court is open, though I never see anyone play. Nets are just fine- not ripped or missing. Aside from the community of friends and family that "hang out" and maybe possibly smoke pot (ahem) , it has fairly little traffic, is always clean, has a bathroom and fountains, is well lit, and a nice spot to walk your dog (take poopy bags and clean up after your pets, please 💚). Read moreThis park used to be a place Black people felt a connection to Jackie Robinson; a black baseball player who is honored as an Activist for civil rights. There was always something for the black community to engage in that was positive and inspiring. Times have changed dramactically. The entire park has been renovated; trees cut down, restrooms are unsafe and filthy, no shade, and it no longer has it's charm. Now it's overrun with Latinos who could care less or know nothing about this historical park and Jackie Robinson's contribution to the Black community. I believe in diversity, however, sadly, most of the black employees are no longer there.
