1 Star for having liquor. Minus 5 Stars for employment. Customers & All but one local were kind and friendly. All were super excited by the store being able to open on Sundays, as having some 'turnover issues' and closing one day a week for a long time. If you get a job, ensure you record everything, you need a GoPro to prove yourself My experience; Not a single minute of online training on the state's policy and procedures, no onboarding, never signing a single payroll or HR document in person or virtually, and no opportunity to sign up for a direct deposit. I did, however, fill out 3 applications and give the manager my s.s. card and DL to copy 3 times. Somehow, my address was wrong, I was to find out. "Go with the flow," was the store policy, "just don't do anything wrong, or the manager will yell at you." First and only "training" I received by clerk on my first day. Then I just tried anything I believed I could do until I was yelled at for being "wrong." The only advice on checking IDs I received was if they 'looked under 35', but from who's perspective they "looked" was never made clear. This clerk was getting contact information from men before anything, even selling to a very intoxicated man after getting his Instagram. I asked the man with the intoxicated man for his ID, and if he was driving, it was very uncomfortable and unsafe.
I was verbally bullied by the store manager in front of customers, sexully harrassed by a customer while the manager and another clerk laughed it off because they had heard worse and the manager's husband couldn't get that man to stop harassing the women. I said mine could. I asked for help from the two other clerks because the manager just yelled at me and made me feel less than a human by embarrassing and shaming me, so I was not comfortable asking her questions. One clerk relies on the manager for her childcare to work "because she can't afford it," the manager had told me at my interview. That clerk also has her schedule anyway she needs it, vapes tobacco out the backdoor of the building as she wishes, and she has no desire to change the environment. The other clerk I worked with for a few hours before I was left completely alone un trained on my 4th day, also seemed to be afraid of the manager and had empathy for my struggles and anxiety, as she had experienced the same when starting. This clerk did have a folder that apparently told her how to do her job. Different rules and policies for different clerks, and I didn't fit in. I DO NOT recommend it as a place of employment. Idaho State Liquor Division, Human Resource, and the district manager said they would "investigate." When I called HR to inquire on how I would receive my pay, I was told the address they had on file was one digit wrong, and I would have to wait for it to be returned and reissued. I was upset and asked if the store manager had inputted it incorrectly and was retaliating because I called the district manager when I walked out in tears without a notice in a panic attack, afraid for my safety from the parking lot of the store. The HR person freaked out on me, thought I was yelling at them. I apologized and tried to explain the situation. They had ZERO empathy or desire to help in any way. When I asked for a timeframe, "Since I am not driving it to your house myself, I have no idea when you will get it." I was sent an email at end of business 4:29pm, Friday July 18th, to void the incorrect check and reissue a new one by this HR person. No business until Monday at 8:30 am. One HR person told me I was "welcome to fill out a freedom of information act request, as we are a state agency, and you are not an employee." So, aka Kick Rocks. I still have not been paid as of July 28th, 2025. "The check is in the mail" was this morning's email response from the non mail delivering HR person. Should I find a lawyer? Asking...
Read moreWithout a doubt one of the best liquor stores I've ever been in. I drove over from Boise to pick up a bottle of peppermint vodka for my wife, this was one of the only stores in the valley that still had it left. It was a seasonal item from Christmas. The store had just opened and was super busy. The woman behind the counter Tammy was super professional she got everybody checked out fast. She was so kind and considerate she also offered me a rose to give to my wife since he was a couple days before Valentine's Day. I would highly recommend if you're in the area type of liquor to stop in and definitely check it out. Pam is working she will definitely take care of you and you will be impressed with the level of her service. Keep up the great job Tammy you...
Read moreWhat a difference a "state" makes! After having a horrible experience at the Ontario Liquor store (see my other review) I left & went to this store in Payette where I was met with a friendly sales person. She was helpful, cheerful, and pleasant. I needed that after the nastiness I encountered at the other place. We moved here 2.5 yrs. ago and this was my third visit with Payette's little (not so little) Idaho State Liquor Store and each time we've been treated with respect & kindness. Good customer service is VERY important to us which is why we will never set foot in the Ontario Liquor store again and give all our business to this establishment which is only a couple of miles away and well worth the drive...
