Great experiences leading up to this one. We typically choose to patronize the local businesses. However, on my most recent visit, my experience was not great. The young gentleman that initially helped me was attentive, greeted me as I came in, and found help when he didn’t have answers to my questions. Upon entering, it seemed all the staff was standing around together, maybe in a meeting or maybe not. The second employee that came to assist me acted as if I was bothering him. He wouldn’t allow me to finish asking a question without speaking over me. I am attempting home repairs on my own and to learn I rely on the knowledge of hardware store employees in addition to the internet. This employee had zero interest in answering any of my most basic questions and when he did answer, did so in a condescending way. Read moreI visited this location around 5:30 p.m. today and was really disappointed with the experience. Most of the employees were standing around socializing like it was a frat gathering. None were wearing anything identifiable as a uniform or even Ace Hardware attire, which made it confusing to know who actually worked there unless you were behind a register.
When I finally asked someone if they were an employee, I was met with an unhelpful and condescending attitude. The employee spoke in a tone that implied I was clueless for even asking questions. His demeanor came off as arrogant and dismissive—absolutely not what you want in a customer-facing role.
I left without purchasing anything, and I don’t plan to return. In today’s market, where big-box stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot offer more selection, customer service becomes the deciding factor. I do have a vast experience with everything mechanical and electrical which makes the interaction seamless. I know what I need and the associate converts that data into what might be of help. I believe that this quality shared among the staff is integral to providing guidance to anyone, of any experience, with an answer about what products might solve your issue. The staff will be patient with you during the process. Please extend them the same courtesy! Not everyone is looking for a duplicate key or something else equally easy to acquire. The DIY folks that might not have a wealth of knowledge and experience will usually require the help of a staff that has quite literally seen it all.
