I don't give 1 star reviews that often. But, the repair for my laptop that I received a couple of years back was not done well. If I am remembering correctly, I paid almost $400 for the repair.
The laptop was unable to close and had a cracked screen (from opening it even through it didn't want to) when I brought it in. They ordered some new parts and called me when everything was in place. When I got it back, the screws that were supposed to be on the front were missing and the man at the counter told me that it was being held together with industrial epoxy. He assured me that it wouldn't come apart.
Fast forward 5 months and it came apart. I didn't treat it roughly; it just wasn't done well. But, I didn't have the receipt so I didn't go back to get it repaired again.
Fast forward 2 or 3 years to today and I gave the laptop to my father, who is a computer technician. I recently upgraded and he wanted the laptop so he can fix it up for my mom to use. He took apart the laptop and informed me of how inadequate of a repair I received and told me that he wishes I would have sent it to him instead.
Apparently, there were vital pieces of the hinging that were missing and screws roaming loose inside.
It is currently being held together with tape because the parts are pretty expensive and not really worth buying for a 6 year old laptop.
TL;DR: Would not recommend. I received a inadequate repair and wasted 400 dollars which could have been put towards...
Read moreWhat a breath of fresh air, What the Tech LLC brought me. My computer went down, so I took it over to Geek Squad to look at it. First they said my Operating System went down, then they called me and said my hard drive was going out. I explained to them, I had Adobe Suite on my computer, and did not want to lose it. I asked them if they could save my programs on the computer, and they said no it crashed. They said there was nothing they could do to save my programs, but they could put in a new hard drive. I made 3 long trips to Pensacola Best Buy, and after the 3rd trip, I told them I was done with there service, paid them $70 for nothing. On the way home I was looking at computer repairs in my area, and ran across "What the Tech LLC", and read there reviews. The reviews I read sounded like the repair store I needed. I'm telling you, my computer was dead in the water, (so to speak). I explained to the tech what had happened, and he said in a very positive way, we could try and clone your hard drive, to a new one. At this point, I was willing to try anything! The next day I got my phone call, that my computer was ready for pickup. The Tech told me he was able to save everything by cloning my old hard drive. I took it home, plug it in.....OMG, it was like a new computer! I would HIGHLY recommend "What the Tech LLC" for any computer repair! They saved me my $4000 worth of programs on my computer. Can't say enough about the fantastic...
Read moreI had a terrible experience with Joe and What the Tech.
My wife's computer was having suspected issues with the power supply. I built the computer, so before sending the power supply back to the manufacturer, I first wanted What the Tech to examine it, to ensure it was the power supply and not something else.
Instead of just checking the power supply, Joe replaced it entirely and charged nearly $100. I explained that there must have been a miscommunication, as the power supply that was having issues was under a 5 year warranty, and that we only wanted to make sure it wasn't functioning correctly, not buy a new one.
Joe decided to throw a hissy fit because, "when customers say their computers are broken, we assume they want them fixed." When I asked him if that's what we asked for, he quickly started making excuses. Joe assumed incorrectly, and he was mad at me for that poor assumption.
The only positive about the situation, is that he didn't charge me for the mistake. I'm hoping this is because he eventually realized he was in the wrong. Absolutely awful customer service. I can assure you I will never be returning, nor will...
