Having a daughter who drops her phone often (on land, in water, ...); and, having done the same, I found Great Lakes iPhone Repair to be, far and above, better than all the other service companies I've used. That includes mail-order, places dedicated to screen repair, places recommended by AT&T store employees, etc.
My specific experience was a cracked screen (LG G3) that went from weird flickers to, finally, a colorful, but useless, screen. I took it in a 3 days before thanksgiving. I was promised that it would be ready for pick-up the day before Thanksgiving. That day rolled around and the owner, Tom, the store's original service technician, had an issue with his 2nd store opening as well as employee(s). I talked to Tom's mother (she greeted me every time I walked in the store), and was told Tom had called from the new shop (50 minutes away) and would drive back and stay until whatever time it took to get me my phone; remember, this was the day before Thanksgiving; when I got the phone back, Tom had made it look and work like the original. He had noticed I had dropped it in water; I didn't take it in for that, it had survived the brief immersion, Tom cleaned-up the guts and removed corrosion.
The last store I had taken it into was a Metro-Detroit chain, promising satisfaction and 1 day turn-around; I had to visit the store 3 times, over the span of a week, before getting a screen that worked & installed flush; even then, if I pressed on a spot near the bottom of the screen, it would go black until I messed with the spot some more.
Thanks Tom -- Big service from a small store in a...
Read moreOver the summer while visiting family back home in good ole Boyne City, I experienced a broken cell phone screen. I googled cell phone repair and called Great Lakes to inquire about the service, insuring they had a iPhone 5S screen in stock. A nice lady told me they had them in stock and told me the repair should take 15 to 30 minutes at the most. The next day, I walk in the storefront with phone in my hand, man is busy looking at his phone behind counter... Doenst look up or verbally acknologe me. I stand there for a minute and then awkwardly clear my throat to get attention. Man looks up, in a very irritable tone, he asks "how can I help you?" I tell him about phone issues. He says it will be done in a couple hours. They didn't look backed up because no one else is in the store and with him looking at his phone I ask "why so long? The lady yesterday on the phone said 15 to 30 minutes, I have a limited amount of time. I'm Leaving town" he replies " God she knows nothing." Long story short, I will spare anymore details but he ended up telling me to go down state to get the type of service I expected but being desperate for needing a phone to travel safely with I used him anyways. I ended up with my hearing piece not working. I could never talk on my phone again without it being on speaker. It was a terrible experience. Don't waste time, don't support rude people and clearly not skilled in their cell...
Read moreMy screen was broken so we decided to take it in here to get it fixed seeing as it was the only place in the area. After seeing that it would only take about an hour we went in and talked to the lady at the front desk who had to continually keep asking for the model of my phone. She told us that if we came in the next day they could get it fixed before we left town. We went in around 1030 and we're going to leave at 12. They had it fixed in time however when I got it back my phone was blue. They had put a blue tinted screen protector on my phone. A nice gesture, had you been able to see through it. I then discover about 3 hours later in our drive back home to Chicago that the screen has two small bubbles at the bottom and has completely stopped working. I can not use my screen at this point, swiping, no, opening apps? No. Only the home button, power buttons, and volume buttons work. This same thing has been happening AT LEAST 4-5 times a day. We have taken it to a verizon store and they said that whoever "fixed" my screen must've not known what they were doing as they attached the wires in the wrong spot. ARE YOU SERIOUS???? Before you offer a service at least try to educate yourself. So now we get to pay $200 more dollars (in addition to the $200 spent here) to another place so they can fix what he broke. Don't take your phone here unless you like not being able to see or use...
