One of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Michigan, in both Petoskey and Gaylord. It's large but cozy and private with tall, comfortable booths to separate the patrons. Each booth and everywhere else you look, you'll find beautiful, hand painted scenes of Mexico and the Mexican culture. It's just a pleasure to come here, whether you want casual or a little more special. The food is fast, fresh and hot. Chimichanga with queso and enchiladas were full of meat and chicken, and sauces were flavorful without being greasy. Beans and rice were traditional and tasted homemade. Our waiter was an angel. He made a good evening GREAT. Every table loved him - we heard people laughing and saw him consistently smiling a real smile, like he enjoyed what he was doing and us "gringos" didn't annoy him TOO much! ;) He was always busy, fast, friendly and professional. The menu is enormous, which can be problematic for some establishments, but not here. Anything we pick has been good, so we enjoy trying new things - and they have all kinds of creative dishes you won't find anywhere else. Find the ones with the house-made BBQ ribs on top! We don't find anything too salty, spicy or over seasoned, especially with cilantro, which can overpower a dish. The only request is filtered water instead of from the tap, plain and in the lemonade, as the water in many cities doesn't taste very good. Otherwise, no complaints! Yes, they charge for chips and salsa, but they're just up front about it. You can't possibly believe any restaurant gives you "free" anything, whether it's bread or chips. It's just worked into the price of the food. "Free" shipping isn't free either - it should really be called "shipping included" if we're going to be honest. So, don't be too upset with them. Sodas are refilled at no additional charge, as we're accustomed to. (Built into the price, of course!) We don't work here or know anyone who does, we weren't compensated in any way for this review, and it wasn't part of an influencer freebie or contest. Just...
Read moreIt was very nice and clean in the inside. I got the choriqueso to eat. It was only an appetizer and comes with flour tortillas. The queso was soooooo good. I even put it on my eating partners El Rancho quesadilla . (Quesadilla filled with chicken, chorizo and onion)
The quesadilla was good. It was great when I added the cheese from the choriqueso.
Back to the choriqueso appetizer. The dip consist of chorizo and queso and then topped with tomatoes. I barely had chorizo in it. Actually it was maybe less than a teaspoon of chorizo. So really it was just cheese. That lack of chorizo was a disappointment. As I could not fill a tortilla up. Because it was nothing but cheese and would not fill.
Customer service was great. You felt welcomed walking in and even greeted on your way out.
Chips and salsa was above average.
Our greeter appeared to be tired. He was slow. As he gave us a another salsa but no chips. We did not get checked on often. Hey, its understandable. We all have days like that.
I rated this place a bit higher because customer service was good. And the food was descent. Queso cheese was very good. But remind them not to be shy with the chorizo if you get the dip!!
First time stopping in here. Again. I'm always on the road exploring restaurants.
I would come back if I...
Read moreCalled to make a reservation for 13, they said they donât do them but for a group like that they would make it happen. Told us to show up at 6:30. So we drive an hour north to eat there (we have eaten there once before and food was good, wait staff doesnât speak much English, which makes things difficult when trying to order the right food, but overall the food was good). Upon arriving there i walked in to tell them the group had arrived. And not one person had a clue as to what I was talking about. So I stood there for 20 minutes, after already standing there for 10 before someone actually came to talk to me, while they tried to figure it out. And after 20 minutes of no response. The rest of my group walked in, they told us all, 15-20 minutes and they would have a table for us . So we stood there for almost 45 minutes and no one said a word. And they kept seating people. Itâs like we werenât even there. They were seating groups of 6,8 and 10 people. But we were left in the corner. So, we left. Made resvervations at luckys in Gaylord, and look at that, they got us in when they...
