Absolutely loved our visit to Grandpa Shorter’s! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality. Pam, the wonderful lady we spoke with, truly made our experience unforgettable. She was incredibly pleasant, informative, and clearly passionate about the store and the local area.

The shop itself is full of charm and character, with so many unique and interesting items to explore. We especially loved seeing the Petoskey stones—what a cool touch of Michigan’s natural beauty! Pam even went above and beyond by giving us helpful tips on how to find our own Petoskey stones at a nearby park. That kind of personal touch is rare these days and really meant a lot to us.

In the 1950s & 60s, Petoskey, MI was even more magical and remote than it is today. My father, a Detroit C.P.A., would drive his two boys north for a 2-3 day adventure while he audited several of his clients in the area. We got to explore the friendly town. We loved Games Imported, the Arcadia Cafe & Jespersons, the Perry Hotel, the amazing bays & Harbor Springs. We walked all over! Certainly Shorter's was a favorite because they had great deerskin things, lots of really cool stuff! Once I saw a hunter bring in a fresh deer hide. I guess he was selling it. Great shop with that northern Michigan vibe! I stopped on a trip to Petoskey in October and was taken by the charm of the store and all of the unique gifts they carry. After I returned home from my trip I had a need to send gift baskets to my coworkers for a team building event. I remembered Grandpa Shorter's offered a variety of gift basket options so I reached out to them about helping me out. The team there was wonderful to work with.
