Pulled in at 5:58 and there was a young man bringing in the pool cover that they keep out front as some sort of advertisement. I pulled up in a parking spot right next to him and asked if they were still open...he replied "what!? I Can't F*@$#!% hear you".... I was a little taken back at his communication technique....or lack there of BUT still asked if I could come in real quick and buy a pail of chlorine tabs, he said I think we are closed for the night....(mind you it had probably just turned 6pm at this point). I asked if he could double check for me, he did, and sure enough they were already shut down and calling it a night at 6pm on the dot. Now I can't hate on them closing right at 6 but what a disappointment. In what world is it acceptable to great a customer offering to spend money at your establishment with a 4 letter word!!?? It seems like they want to give the feel of a "local / mom & pop shop" (even if they are not) but can't offer the courtesy of extending their hours by 3 minutes to make a sale? I know 100 bucks isn't that much now a days but geez! I'm sure some big box stores would have been more than happy to let me in 2 minutes to closing to make a sale & I highly doubt that I would have been greeted with a curse word. As a matter of fact I am headed to Home Depot now....their quality Is good enough for my pool. All in all I probably spend around $150.00 per month at this B&L location but feel like they are over priced, & after today I will never spend 1 penny with them again. 3 days ago I stopped in for the same thing but the cashier told me they sent out coupons for the product I was buying, I told him that I probably have it at home and asked for the coupon price, he told me he couldn't do that, asked me to go home and come back....problem was it was like 10 to 6....how was I going to make it back that night!!?? Who does that anyway, 9 times out of 10 an establishment will give you the promotional price with or without the coupon because they are already banking on the set sale price BUT not these guys. THESE GUYS ARE OUTDATED, HAVE ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND COULD CARE LESS ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS!!!!!! GO ELSE WHERE AND SAVE YOURSELF THE...
Read moreWhere do I start? B and L was recommended by the previous owner of my home. I always value word of mouth reccomindations. 1st the 51st Avenue and Peoria store sold me the biggest piece of junk for an automatic pool cleaner. I have had to have it repaired 6 times the first year under warranty now. (Zodiac DC33) I have double and triple checked the vacuum setting on my pump and they are right where the manufacturer suggest. The thing doesnt even clean the shallow end, just makes circles in the deep end. I talked with another B and L pool store and the guy I spoke to told me that it should have never been sold to me for a pool my size, which I informed Vicki of my pool size when I bought the thing. "Its the lastest and greatest' it will have no problem cleaning your pool" was what Vicki told me. I have asked repeatedly starting with the first rebuild to please give me store credit and I will spend more money to buy a better pool cleaner. Vicky has given me the same response twice. "I will talk to the rep and see what we can do". No response. $250 out of my pocket wasted. $250 does not include the 6 sections of extra Zodiac pool hose I had to buy for it at $20 a section. Total spent $370. I could have had a really nice pool cleaner for that amount of money. Then I thought I would give a second chance to the pool repair/rehab division. I called a week and a half ago for an estimate on a pool rehab. I was kind of impressed at first because the estimator said he could do the estimate from google earth and didnt need a home visit. This was great for me as I work 12+ hours a day. By the other estimates I am recieving this is a $15k pool rehab. I was promised the estimate by Monday 6/3/2019. I waited until that Wednesday to start calling for my estimate. Still nothing, no email, no return call, nothing. Its now Saturday 6/8/19. I guess $15k isnt a big enough job for them. I wont be spending another penny with this company or any of the...
Read moreThis is a mixed review. I'll get the bad stuff out of the way.
The store does a great job on the retail side. However, based upon my experience, some of the store employees are not trained in customer service, scheduling or in pool repairs/maintenance . . . but will act as if they are. This comes from multiple personal experiences.
I've been going to this store for over 20 years, but never used them for service/maintenance until three days ago.
I needed the sand (500 pounds) changed in my Hayward filter. There was a problem with the price. The store quoted one price and the contractor quoted a different, much higher price. When I called to straighten things out I was told that the first (smaller) price quote might have been from an old schedule, which changed at the beginning of the year. They promised to call me if the higher amount would be the price. They didn't call and the workman, alone, showed up to do the job.
Here's where the good stuff starts.
The pool guy's name is Johnathan. He assured me that the original price would be honored. Young fellow. Amiable, knowledgeable, personable, and hard working. He was very thorough and organized. He hauled out hundred pound buckets of old, wet sand and then loaded nine 50 pound bags of new sand without breaking a sweat. About three hours later he finished the work.
Jonathan also was a very good PR agent for the company. When he left my confidence was again re-established for B & L Pools.
The cherry on top just occurred. One of the B & L pools staff just called me and explained the confusion. Although there was a price change earlier in the year, they will honor the 2017 price. Did a nice job of soothing my ruffled feathers too. So, all is well again between me and B & L pools.
I recommend...
